Hope all's well.
Remember, no need to book for Mass this Sunday or for any Sundays from now on . Just come along. Big Feast Day this Sunday - The Assumption of Our Lady. A special day when we proclaim our belief that Mary is one in body and soul in heaven. It offers us a great opportunity to join our prayers with the prayers of Mary, who prays for us to Jesus in heaven. And it's great that we’re permitted to use hymn books again at Mass. Just to let you know – each hymn book for each Mass, before being picked up from the porch, will have been quarantined for one week – so, nice and safe to use. Good that Servers are back at Mass. There'll be a short meeting for Altar Servers on Sunday 22nd August at 1.15pm in the Church, and great that we'll have new servers starting soon. Last day of the summer holidays. To all the staff and pupils who are starting back, may the days ahead be filled with joy, happiness and many blessings. Take care. Stay safe. Pray safe. Fr Mackle A few words....
Hope this finds you well. Remember ~ no need now to book for the Vigil or Sunday Masses. Just come along. Okay, we’re a church full of masked singers, but it is great that we are all allowed to sing again. Separate sets of hymn books will be made available for each Mass as from this weekend coming. Invite family members, friends, fellow parishioners to come along to Mass with you. And only one name now per household required for Test & Protect, so things will be a lot easier at the door, thankfully. Ten young people from the USA and Wales will be forming a NET team for ten months to minister in our schools and parishes and encourage our young people in their faith and belonging to the Church. We look forward to inviting them along to St Andrew’s. NET is appealing for ‘Host Homes. Can you help? It would be for a one-week time frame for a minimum of two people, with breakfast, packed lunch and dinner. They usually leave in the morning and return at dinner time. If you can help, please email maryshields@netscotland.org In this Year of St Joseph, please visit our sleeping St Joseph statue. You can write out a petition and place it under the statue. Let St Joseph ‘sleep on it’. We’ll be looking at the parish diary soon for dates for First Reconciliation (P3), First Holy Communion (P4) and Confirmation (P7). Enrolment forms will soon be available for P3 and P7. The list of enrolled names for last year’s P3 will automatically roll over into this year’s P4 for First Holy Communion. So, no need for P4 families to worry about having to re-enroll. Enjoy what remains of the school holidays. Have a good week! Take care Fr Mackle St Andrew’s, St Joseph’s and St Nicholas’ are hoping to have another cohort of Pope Francis Faith Award candidates from the two P6 classes.
Invitations to enrol will be going out soon. Pupils and parents might want to take a look, in the meantime, at https://sces.org.uk/faith-award/ Great news ~ after seventeen tough months, our church and halls can, thankfully, at last, while still being safe places, return to their normal capacity. No more social distancing as from Monday coming.
In the light of these recent changes, I would like to urge every member of St Andrew's reading this message: Come back to Mass! Come back to Mass and receive Jesus as the Bread of Life. I appreciate that many over these past months have got into the routine of attending Mass on line, and our live streaming facility has been a terrific asset for our parish during these times. However, participating in Mass online doesn't beat our coming together in the church as a praying, worshiping and, thankfully, once again, singing community - even although we still need to be masked singers. Come back to Mass! Come back and invite and encourage family members, friends, fellow parishioners to come back. Bring them back with you. Come back to Mass! If you haven't registered yet for the booking process for Mass, it's easy to do. Go to www.standrewsbearsden.co.uk Update- Covid Changes.
As you will have seen, the First Minister announced this afternoon that social distancing indoors will end from Monday 9thAugust. This means that after this date there will be no obligation to keep 1m distance between household groups and so our church and halls can return to their normal capacity. Face coverings - There is no change to the requirement to wear masks. Cleaning and sanitising - The careful cleaning of the church and sanitising of hands will need to continue as before. Ventilation - The Bishops’ experts highlight the importance of ventilation. Where possible, we will continue with windows and doors being open whilst the church is in use, and the doors will be open both before and after Mass. Use of holy water fonts There is still a risk that the virus can be transmitted through the use of holy water fonts. The use of fonts is not advised until further notice. Distribution of hymn books for Mass and newsletters is now allowed as normal. Use of confessionals The use of enclosed confessionals should continue to be avoided. Test and Protect - Parishes need to continue the Test and Protect regime by the collection and temporary retention of parishioner information. However, if this is unduly burdensome parishes may collect information for just one person per family group. Or alternatively, parishes may invite people to register for their usual Mass as a one-off and ask them to inform the parish if they are not going to attend. Most congregations tend to be fairly stable, especially as we now have greater numbers attending Mass. |
