Coffee Morning - Sunday 24th August. Hope you’ve all had a great summer. Please come along and join us after 10a.m.Mass in the Upper Hall on Sunday 24th August. This month we are raising funds for Caritas International which is a confederation working in almost every country in the world, reaching out to the poor, vulnerable and excluded, regardless of race or religion, to build a world based on justice and fraternal love.
"If the consciousness of universal brotherhood truly penetrates into the hearts of men, will they still need to arm themselves to the point of becoming blind and fanatic killers of their brethren who in themselves are innocent, and of perpetrating, as a contribution to Peace, butchery of untold magnitude, as at Hiroshima on 6th August 1945?"
Pope Paul VI, Message for World Day of Peace, 1967
Laudato Si’ - On Care for our Common Home – When human beings fail to find their true place in this world, they misunderstand themselves and end up acting against themselves:
- “Not only has God given the earth to man, who must use it with respect for the original good purpose for which it was given, but, man too is God’s gift to man. He must therefore respect the natural and moral structure with which he has been endowed”
Welcome to August; a sacred month of quiet preparation and joyful expectation.
- Before we leap into the Season of Creation we invite you to pause, breathe and root yourself in prayer, because before every great movement, there is a moment of stillness.
- This month, the LSM Prayer Guide leads us into a deeper understanding of this simple truth: We are all God’s creatures - every human, animal river and forest.
- Download the August Prayer Guide on this link.
Pilgrimage to pray for the Beatification of The Venerable Margaret Sinclair will take place on Sunday, 21st September in St Patrick's Church, Cowgate-Edinburgh. For more details please see the poster in the porch.
Jubilee Service. Each Deanery in the diocese has been asked to take part in a Jubilee Service at the Cathedral this year. Our date is 15th September at 7p.m. Along with St Joseph's, Milngavie, we have been asked to arrange transport if possible. Therefore, if you are interested in attending, there is a sheet in the porch for you to sign. If there are sufficient numbers we would try to hire a bus.
Children’s Liturgy ~ To keep this valuable program going, we need more volunteers.
- No special skills—just enthusiasm and the desire to help the parish children.
- We'll provide all resources needed and guidance through the PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) process. Please note that for the safety of our children, only those with PVG approval are permitted in the hall.
- For more information, please contact Fr Michael or Gillian Harkness or leave your details using the QR code displayed in the Church Porch.
Piety Stall rota Could you occasionally help with serving in the Piety Stall? We are particularly short of volunteers for the 10:00 a.m. Sunday morning Mass – if you could sometimes spare 10 minutes after this Mass to help, we’d be most grateful. The rota sheet for July, August and September is on the door of the Piety Stall.
Meantime, our sincere thanks to everyone who regularly volunteers to assist with running the stall. Any questions please call Anne MacIntosh 07866 009078 or Annamaria Strachan 07749 715514.
Before receiving Holy Communion, we are asked to make some act of reverence such as a bow.
Regarding young children who haven’t made their First Communion being given a blessing at Communion time. Parents who wish their child to receive a blessing must come forward, please, in the Communion line to the priest. Many thanks.
RCIA PROGRAMME: If you know of anyone who wishes to join the church, please see Fr. Michael.
