Pastoral Area: Bearsden/Milngavie. Due to Fr. Lyon's being on Sick Leave, from July, I have been asked to attend any funerals at St. Joseph's. Please note – this year, we will not be having the Summer Timetable of Masses, the parish will continue with Masses/ Services the way we have been doing at the moment. I will be away later in the year, so changes of Masses/ Services will be given nearer the time. Fr Michael.
Sunday 15th June, Dungavel Solidarity Gathering - Every year around Refugee Week, Justice & Peace Scotland join with other organisations for a solidarity witness gathering outside Dungavel IRC, ML10 6RF, near Strathaven, South Lanarkshire. Join us at 1.00pm for readings, reflections and to advocate for human dignity over indefinite detention.
Day for Life 2025 - Sunday 15 June. Every year the Church marks a 'Day for Life' in which we are asked to consider the value of, and threats to, life in all its stages. This year’s theme is Hope does not Disappoint: Finding meaning in Suffering. Find out more at rcag.org.uk to explore the theme and the message for the day.
Lunch Club The next meeting of the lunch club is this Thursday 19th June, 12.30pm -2.30p.m. in the Upper Hall. As always everyone is very welcome. Come along bring a friend, a neighbour, a family member and enjoy lunch “in a warm friendly environment".
Together For Sanctuary – Immaculate Conception, Maryhill – Thurs 19th June, 7pm Justice & Peace Scotland invite you to Together for Sanctuary, a special ecumenical Christian worship service held as part of Refugee Festival Scotland. Organised in partnership with SFAR (Scottish Faiths Action for Refugees), this gathering will bring together people of all backgrounds to stand in solidarity with those who seek sanctuary for a time of prayer, worship, music and reflection.
On Sunday 22nd June The Nuncio will preside at the 12 noon Mass in Saint Andrew’s Cathedral.
The Nuncio will also lead the Blessed Sacrament Procession in Croy which begins with a welcome at Holy Cross Church at 3.45 pm, followed by the Eucharistic Procession through the Village from 4.00 pm, returning to the Church for Benediction around 5.15 pm.
Refugee Festival Scotland, 13-22 June, is back with a packed programme for you to enjoy! Celebrate the music, dance, food, art, language and ideas that people bring with them when they settle in Scotland. There’s something for everyone! SPRED - Thank you very much to those who bought raffle tickets for the annual SPRED fundraiser. Thanks also for generous donations of money and items for the tombola at the annual SPRED Ceilidh in St Philomena's, Provanmill on Friday 13th June where the Grand Raffle was drawn. St Andrew's had a Winner!!!! Guided tour of Celtic Park for 4. Well done!!!!!
Our own SPRED parish group, which consists of parishioners from St Andrew's and St Joseph's is actively looking for friends who have special needs aged 21 plus and volunteers who would be interested in training in order to keep this vital parish based ministry going forward. RCIA PROGRAMME: Interested in becoming a Catholic? Please get in touch. The programme of learning and instruction will begin after summer and prepares adults for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Please speak to Fr Michael, if you would like to know more.
FUNDRAISING. The parish is looking to set up a new fundraising body along the same principles as the 29 Club. We are in the process of working this out, so please be patient. I hope you will continue to support this new fundraising activity as you have in the past.
Jubilee Service. Each Deanery in the diocese has been asked to take part in a Jubilee Service at the Cathedral this year. Our date is 15th September at 7p.m. Along with St. Joseph's, Milngavie, we have been asked to arrange transport if possible. Therefore, if you are interested in attending, there is a sheet in the porch for you to sign. If there are sufficient numbers we would try to hire a bus. Could you please sign up by the end of June.

Primary 1 Welcome Event for children starting St. Nicholas Primary School in August 2025 will take place on Sunday, 22nd June in St. Andrew's Church Hall, from 1p.m. to 3p.m. Open to all families to drop in for activities, pre-loved uniforms available, refreshments and P6 'buddies' to introduce themselves.
