Catholic Social Teaching Thought for the Week – 17th August 2025
"
We cannot uphold an ideal of holiness that would ignore injustice in a world where some revel, spend with abandon and live only for the latest consumer goods, even as others look on from afar, living their entire lives in abject poverty."
Gaudete et Exultate, para. 101

Laudato Si’-On Care for our Common Home.
  • Modernity has been marked by an excessive anthropocentrism which today, under another guise, continues to stand in the way of shared understanding and of any effort to strengthen social bonds.
  • The time has come to pay renewed attention to reality and the limits it imposes; this in turn is the condition for a more sound and fruitful development of individuals and society. (#116)

Welcome to August; a sacred month of quiet preparation and joyful expectation. Before we leap into the Season of Creation, we invite you to pause, breathe and root yourself in prayer, because before every great movement, there is a moment of stillness.
This month, the LSM Prayer Guide leads us into a deeper understanding of this simple truth:
  • We are all God’s creatures - every human, animal river and forest.
  • Download the August Prayer Guide on https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hx0NYRN2fY37UJBegzOIxWiAd_7Elktj/view

Pilgrimage to pray for the Beatification of The Venerable Margaret Sinclair will take place on Sunday, 21st September in St Patrick's Church, Cowgate-Edinburgh. For more details please see the poster in the porch.

Children’s Liturgy ~ To keep this valuable program going, we need more volunteers.
  • No special skills—just enthusiasm and the desire to help the parish children.
  • We'll provide all resources needed and guidance through the PVG (Protection of Vulnerable Groups) process. Please note that for the safety of our children, only those with PVG approval are permitted in the hall.
  • For more information, please contact Fr Michael or Gillian Harkness or leave your details using the QR code displayed in the Church Porch.

Before receiving Holy Communion, we are asked to make some act of reverence such as a bow.
