"For every one who exalts himself will be humbled,
but the one who humbles himself will be exalted."

Normal Mass times will resume this weekend 31st August /1st September. Thanks to all for your cooperation in willingly moving between Masses and parishes.

~ Farewell message from Fr Mackle ~ I am taking this opportunity to say just a few words. My time with you as your Parish Priest will come to an end officially on Friday 6th September when Fr Michael Maloney takes over and I jump through the tunnel and become a soosider again! If you had a drone eye's view, you'd see priests and removal vans crisscrossing all over the Archdiocese on Friday!
It has been an enormous privilege to be your parish priest and serve you here these past 11 years. I will always remember with great fondness, thankfulness and love, you the good people of the parish of St Andrew’s, Bearsden. From the joy of baptisms, weddings, first communions, confirmations, welcoming our new Catholics through RCIA, hearing the beautiful sounds of the parish's singing and music (here's hoping there's a pop up choir where I'm going) visiting your homes, and the care homes, listening to your stories, attending all the important meetings, reaching out together with you through messengers and social media, reaching out with you to those in need, seeing all the parish's ministries in church and grounds, enjoying the parish socials, and the youth events of St Andrew's & St Joseph's, visiting pupils and staff and celebrating Masses in St Nicholas' and Turnbull High, praying with you, serving alongside Deacons Tommy and Nick, Monsignor Ryan and Fr Currie, celebrating the Eucharist together, seeing all the groups and organisations, praying and meeting with our brothers and sisters in the Bearsden churches, to the sadness of praying by the bedside of a loved one and anointing them, or sharing in the grief of laying a loved one to rest in the hope of eternal life - there is so much about the life and mission of St Andrew's that I could list and say - it truly has been a privilege to have served you, and, hopefully, I have helped to lead you closer to Christ and His Church.
I feel overwhelmed with an experience of gratitude as I recall the 11 years of my priesthood that I have spent here in St Andrew's - 11 very happy years. Next weekend will be Fr Maloney's first Mass with you. I am sure you will make him feel as much at home as I have felt over the years. Many many thanks.
May God bless you all.
Take care,
Fr Joseph Mackle.

Children’s Liturgy.  Our grateful thanks to Sharon and Alan Warner for looking after the parish's Children’s Liturgy for the past 20 plus years. Their dedication and service for over the past two decades is an inspiration to all. They are now stepping down from this ministry. Arrangements are currently being made, through the parish’s liturgy group, to seek volunteers so that Sharon and Alan’s good work continues. We wish Sharon and Alan a well earned and richly deserved happy retirement from this joyous area of parish life.

Save the Date! As part of the Season of Creation (1st September-4th October) we are planning a "Creative Crafternoon" on Saturday 14th September in our parish halls from 2.30pm to 4.45pm. Crafting materials will be available for all ages/just bring along your own and enjoy the spirit of creativity in good company. More details soon. If you have a crafting skill of any kind and you'd be happy to display/share/teach, we really want to hear from you! Please email: [email protected].

The Feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of ecology, is an annual month-long season when Christian communities celebrate our faith in God Creator and act in unity to care for our common home.  Go to seasonofcreation.org for details on how to participate in the global movement to care for God's gift of creation!

To mark the end of this year's Season of Creation, the Justice and Peace group and the Youth Ministry team would like to invite representatives of all groups in the parish to come together to prepare a prayer service of readings, meditation and music in St Andrew's on the evening of Sunday 6 October. We have a rough format for the service but input from as many parish teams as possible would be most welcome. To this end, we hope to gather on Sunday, 1 September at 1pm in the church for a short meeting to share ideas. Please pass this message on to as many group members as possible. Those who are able to attend on 1 September should message Fr Mackle on [email protected] and he will pass your interest on to the J & P/Youth groups. Thank you in advance for your help.

Catholic Social Teaching Thought for the Week - Sunday 1st September 2024 (World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation) The majority of people living on our planet profess to be believers. This should spur religions to dialogue among themselves for the sake of protecting nature, defending the poor, and building networks of respect and fraternity. Pope Francis, Laudato Si', para 201

Laudato Si’ - On Care for our Common Home – Yet it would also be mistaken to view other living beings as mere objects subjected to arbitrary human domination. When nature is viewed solely as a source of profit and gain, this has serious consequences for society. (#82)

Pastoral Area - A sad day for Milngavie as Fr Currie retires on 22nd September after 12 years in St Joseph's and over 50 years in parishes in the Archdiocese.
