Catholic Social Teaching Thought for the Week – 20th September 2026 (UN International Day of Peace is observed on 21st September) But peace does not consist merely in a hard, inflexible justice. It must be made acceptable and easy by being compounded almost equally of charity and a sincere desire for reconciliation. Pope Pius XI, Ubi Arcano Dei Consilio

World Week for Peace in Palestine and Israel - 20th-26th September.
  • During this week, people and churches all over the world are invited to pray, advocate, and stand in solidarity with people in Palestine and Israel who seek peace in the Holy Land.
  • “Pray not for Arab or Jew, for Palestinian or Israeli, but pray for ourselves, that we might not divide them in our prayers, but keep them both together in our hearts."

Laudato Si’ Quote ~ cultural ecology
Attempts to resolve all problems through uniform regulations or technical interventions can lead to overlooking the complexities of local problems which demand the active participation of all members of the community. New processes taking shape cannot always fit into frameworks imported from outside; they need to be based in the local culture itself.  (#144)

SEASON OF CREATION Week 3 - Water Pollution.
  • It is estimated that over 700 million people worldwide lack access to clean drinking water, with over 1000 under 5s dying each day from polluted water conditions.
  • At home, our rivers are being polluted by sewage run-off and intensive agricultural and industrial pollution.
  • As Christians, we are called to confront these injustices by supporting SCIAF and WaterAid clean water campaigns and urging MPs to introduce a Bill that protects water sources.

Fairtrade Fortnight. 21st September - 4th October.
  • Did you know that in the UK, for every £3.70 spent on a cup of coffee, producers typically retain only 4p -around 1% of the retail price?
  • Is that fair?
  • So, this fortnight you are asked to "Do it Fair - for People, for Planet and for Fair Pay”.
  • Changing shopping habits isn’t easy, but if you buy only one additional fairtrade item, you will be helping to break this cycle of injustice.
