Catholic Social Teaching Thought for the Week - 26th October 2025
- "We cannot remain spectators before the suffering of so many people who are worn out by hunger, violence, and injustice. … If I do not draw near to that man, to that woman, to that child, to that old man or that old woman who is suffering, I do not draw near to God."
Laudato Si’ - On Care for our Common Home –
- When human beings place themselves at the centre, they give absolute priority to immediate convenience and all else becomes relative.
- Hence we should not be surprised to find, in conjunction with the omnipresent technocratic paradigm and the cult of unlimited human power, the rise of a relativism which sees everything as irrelevant unless it serves one’s own immediate interests. (#122)
Disarmament Week, 24 -30 October
- To promote awareness and better understanding of disarmament issues and their cross-cutting importance.
- Did you know that global military spending in 2024 was $2.7 TRILLION, more than 100 TIMES that needed for humanitarian aid!
- And in a world threatened by weapons of mass destruction, conventional arms and emerging cyberwarfare, the pressure to spend more is only increasing!
