THE HALLS COMMITTEE has had several requests to organise more frequent Parish events. However, since members of the Halls Committee are limited, this is proving to be a burden on a few people. Therefore, if any Parishioner wishes to organise a Parish event, please liaise with the Halls Committee who will provide advice and support where possible

Catholic Social Teaching Thought for the Week
"
Weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear weapons, create nothing but a false sense of security."
Pope Francis, Address to Participants ‘Prospects for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons and for Integral Disarmament, 10 November 2017

Laudato Si’ Quote - integral ecology
Economic growth, for its part, tends to produce predictable reactions and a certain standardisation with the aim of simplifying procedures and reducing costs. This suggests the need for an “economic ecology” capable of appealing to a broader vision of reality. The protection of the environment is in fact “an integral part of the development process and cannot be considered in isolation from it”.  (#141)

SCIAF SHIELD
  • Jason Cole has entered a team, “The Saint Andrews Bears (RC)” and paid the registration fee so any footballers from the parish who wish to play (and whatever anyone wants to pay) can contact him on this email address: [email protected] or phone 07940 585297.
  • 12.00 p.m. Saturday 1st August 2026 Glasgow Goals South 941 Pollokshaws Rd, Glasgow, G41 2D
  • More details of the event here: https://www.sciaf.org.uk/get-involved/events/799-the-sciaf-shield?ref=ed_direct

Remember Vocations - Saturday 1st August - Eucharistic Adoration for Vocations to the Priesthood, 10 -11am, with Exposition, Rosary and Benediction.
  • Have you noticed there seems to be fewer priests to serve parishes these days.
  • Is that because not many people are praying for Vocations?
  • Is it because so few parishioners visit Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and pray the Rosary for Vocations?
  • Why don’t you come and “Pray the Lord of the harvest to send more labourers into the harvest”?

Pilgrimage for Life 2026:
The annual Pilgrimage for Life will take place at Carfin Grotto on Saturday 1st August 2026. Led by Bishop John Keenan, the day offers an opportunity for prayer, reflection and witness to the dignity and sanctity of every human life.
The programme includes:
  • 12:00 Noon – Holy Mass
  • 2:00 p.m. – Eucharistic Adoration
  • 2:15 p.m. – Stations of the Cross
  • 2:45 p.m. – Divine Mercy Chaplet
  • 3:30 p.m. – Holy Rosary.
Families are especially encouraged to attend. All are welcome.

Faslane Christian Peace Witness Vigil, Saturday 1st August, 11am to 12.30pm.
  • As Christians, we are called to be peacemakers and to uphold the dignity of every human life.
  • Nuclear weapons are fundamentally incompatible with this call as their existence threatens indiscriminate destruction and a future built on fear and power-wielding rather than on fraternity amongst nations.

Parish Padre Pio Group:
  • Meets for prayers in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel at St Andrews, Roman Rd at 2p.m. on the first Monday of each month.
  • Next meeting is next Monday, 3rd August 2026.

Church painting:
  • Monday, 10th August and last for roughly two weeks.
  • Apart from funerals during this period, the church will be closed during the week.
  • Weekend Masses will continue as normal.
  • Many thanks for your understanding.

Race Night Fundraiser for SPRED
  • Tickets for this event on Saturday 29th August will be available from 1st August following all vigil masses and 10am Sunday masses during August in the church porch.
  • Price £10 adults and £5 children which will include a light buffet.
  • People wishing to sponsor individual races can do so by advising when purchasing their ticket.
  • We will also hold a raffle on the night, and donations of raffle prizes would be very welcome and can be handed to Father Michael at the house.
  • As ever, your generosity and support is very much appreciated.

Before receiving Holy Communion, we are asked to make some act of reverence such as a bow.

'We Are Mission' handout is in the porch and free of charge.

The Church is open until 5p.m. Monday to Saturday. Call in and enjoy the peace and quiet and take time to sit in the stillness in the silence of God.

Thursday 6th August marks the anniversary of the world’s first nuclear attack on Hiroshima in 1945 killing over 70,000 Japanese civilians.
  • Nine states now hold weapons many times more powerful than those used in 1945.
  • The current situation over Iran shows that nuclear politics continues to persist.
  • Nuclear disarmament wholesale, is now more than ever needed to provide a safer, better world.
  • And they shall beat their swords into ploughshares …neither shall they learn war any more. Isaiah 2:4
