The Feast of St. Francis – October 4th
A Reflection from Justice and Peace
This date marks the end of the Season of Creation for this year. Our Creation Banner serves as a visual summary of all that was dear to St. Francis.
The Cry of the Earth
The images of a dove and the earth reflect Francis’s vision to honour and protect God's Creation.
The Cry of the Poor
Francis chose a life of poverty and simplicity, creating an Order of Friars whose ideals mirrored those of Jesus and his Apostles. This is echoed in the Beatitude:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
- Throughout the ages, poverty has been a constant in all societies.
- Today, the goal to end poverty is receding fast.
- Climate disruption affects especially communities in the Global South, and war diverts precious resources, risking a surge in refugees.
- Reflect on how to reduce your carbon footprint.
- Buy Fair Trade goods to help farmers in the developing world.
- Use the Rosary to pray for Peace, reflecting on the poverty in our world and how we can help alleviate it.
- Short meeting for those who visit the Sick at home or in Nursing Homes.
- Thursday 9th October after Mass.
- Hope you are all able to make it.
The Bishop's Conference Event
- Interreligious Dialogue in a time of Conflict.
- The Conforti Institute, Calder Avenue, Coatbridge.
- Saturday 8th October.
