Sacraments

5/3/2022

Almost 40 Primary Three children, over the next fortnight, will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation ~ encountering God’s love and mercy in this beautiful Sacrament!

Keep them in your prayers for they look forward to their First Confession and also to their First Holy Communion next year.

Also, during these weeks of this Holy Season of Lent, pupils in St Nicholas' and Turnbull High will have the opportunity for Confession.

“Confession is an encounter with Jesus whose mercy motivates us to do better.”
Pope Francis

UN Report: Act Now to Stop Climate Chaos

1/3/2022

Picture
The key message of the report by the Independent Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released last Monday is stark, stressing the need to take urgent action right now to avoid continuing permanent damage to ecosystems, species extinction and human wellbeing. The report’s authors state that climate change has already led to:
  •  "widespread deterioration of ecosystems” as a consequence of increased heat, half of global species have already migrated towards the poles or to higher altitudes.
  • Increases in heat are contributing to unprecedented levels of mortality and mass extinction of species.
  •  The permanent melting of glaciers and the Arctic permafrost is “approaching irreversibility” and is likely to reach a tipping point if temperature rise exceeds 1.50 C .
  • The authors stress the urgent need for governments, institutions, business and individual citizens to mitigate the effects of global warming (Source: IPCC 6th Assessment Report, 2022).  This affects us all and if unchecked, will have an increasingly devastating effect on the wellbeing of future generations.
  • If you feel moved to do something you can perhaps read the report for yourself and express your concern about this to our MP Amy Callaghan and/or to MSPs Rona Mackay, Pam Gosal and Ross Greer.
