A few words...

Hope all’s well.

‘Keep me in your prayers’ someone may say to you.

‘Would you say a special prayer for me, for my intentions’ they might say.

‘Say one for me’. ‘Remember me in your prayers’. ‘Keep them going for me’

These are requests we can make to someone, or someone might make to us.

Praying for others is what we do. It is taught to us by Christ, especially at the Last Supper.

Take a look at today’s gospel. Look at how Jesus intercedes, prays for his followers.

‘Keep those.....  protect them......  consecrate them.....’ he prays.

This is what we do. We pray for others. We ask others to pray for us.

Praying to God for others, keeping them in our prayers, remembering them, is following Christ’s example.

When we pray for others, it is an expression of love for those for whom we are praying, whether they are with us or have gone before us.

Remember me in your prayers, as I remember you in mine.

Remember, too, tonight’s 9@9 prayer to the Holy Spirit. This is night 6.  Come, Holy Spirit.

And good to hear the thinking caps are on for marking Pentecost at home this Sunday.

Have a safe and happy Wednesday.

Take care

Fr Mackl

A few words...

Hope all’s well.

There’s a line from the Act of Sorrow with which the children and their parents are familiar - ‘Help me to live like Jesus’.

And this is what we’re all called to do, to live like Jesus, to be like Jesus, to be Christ like among those with whom we live and work.

Hopefully, we can be like Jesus even at the very end of our lives and say to God as he said, ‘ I have finished the work you gave me to do’

Until that day comes, we are to do our best in responding to God’s call to be Christian, to do our best to make God known to others, which is done really by the way we live.

In being called to do our best, to make God known to others, Jesus doesn’t just leave us to it - the Holy Spirit works in us and through us to help us touch the hearts of others.

Have a safe and happy Tuesday. Remember, 9@9 prayer tonight to the Holy Spirit.  We're half way there now in our waiting and praying.

Take care

Fr Mackle

9@9 Prayer

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.

O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord,

Amen.

Re-opening

Re-opening - We are desperately looking  forward to the day when our church doors will reopen – no definite dates yet, though, since these are dependent on the developing scientific evidence.

The Scottish Government  has announced that places of worship will be allowed to open for private prayer in the 2nd phase of the plan, and reopen for Mass and other group gatherings in phase 3.

The Bishops’ Conference have expert advisers preparing plans for how this can work, and we have already started to look at a number of things in preparation to reopen.

Regarding social distancing, we are comfortable that we can fit in the church around 50 people whilst observing the 2m distance, and more if couples and families sit together. We’re also looking in to the possibility of both halls being used.

There will be lots more details provided as we get closer to reopening and get more guidance from both national and archdiocesan level on what we need to do to reopen our church and halls safely.

Remember, this Sunday 31st May, put a picture of a flame or dove in your window or light a candle for Pentecost?

We may continue to be physically isolated, but we're not separated. We are united as the body of Christ.

Why not take a photo of Pentecost and send it in. Photos to be emailed to both

A few words...

We're all in this together.

We're in it together journeying through these days waiting and praying, these days of the novena to the Holy Spirit.

Remember the 9@9 prayer to the Holy Spirit tonight at 9

This is us journeying together into the 'new norm' - in the power of the Holy Spirit who is for us  a helper and a guide.

If you get a chance, have a look at the Acts reading - today's 1st reading.

Paul laid hands on disciples of John the Baptist and baptised them, and the Holy Spirit came down on them.

This is the same baptism we have received.

Today's another day in our baptismal life in Christ.

Remember, it’s good to say often, 'I am baptised'. What it does is it brings our baptism out of the past into the present, into today.

The Holy Spirit came down on us also at baptism. In Confirmation, we were sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.

We have been given that gift - God's gift. Thank God we've been given it.

Each night in this novena, saying, praying Come, Holy Spirit, each of us is asking the Holy Spirit this - help me to be conscious of your power, help me to be aware of your presence, come and work through me, through my words, through my prayers, through my actions.

Have a safe and happy Monday

Take care
