On this the last day of term, the very best of luck from all in St Joseph’s and St Andrew’s Parishes to all P7 pupils moving on to new schools and new adventures, and to all those moving on from Secondary School into a new chapter in their lives.
Wishing all teachers, pupils and their families a restful and enjoyable summer break, and we look forward to a new term of some kind of normality in August. Take care, stay safe and pray safe. A few words...
Hope all’s well. So, day #3 of the 5 senses journey of little exercises to feel and touch God, in some way, through the senses. Today, focus on Feel / Touch A couple of lines from sacred scripture. Hosea 11:3 - 4 ‘Yet I was the one who taught Israel to walk. I took my people up in my arms. I drew them to me with affection and love.’ John 20: 27. ‘Put your finger here and touch my hands. Stretch out your hand and put it into my side’ Starting with the place where you are, touch and feel everything that you see around you - it’s structure, it’s details. Close your eyes touch these things again. How has God touched your life? How have you touched God in your life? Remember, again, St Augustine’s words, ‘Why climb the mountains or go into the valleys of the world for Him who dwells within us?’ So, the church will open today from 12noon until 3pm if you wish to pop in for a quiet prayer. Remember and bring your face covering. If you are popping in for a visit, you’re asked not to stay for too long, please. This will ensure that as many people as possible can use the limited time and space, and because shorter visits reduce virus risk. 15 minutes max is suggested. As parishes have been asked to obtain a list of those who come to church in case the NHS needs contact details if someone who has attended church should become ill, the parish stewards will ask you for yours. Tomorrow’s sense to reflect on will be Taste. Hope you have a good day Take care Fr Mackle We pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of Anne Parker whose anniversary it is today. Thoughts and prayers today are with Caroline and her family. May God give Anne rest and peace in the kingdom of light. At times we find it hard to make room for God's unconditional love in our pastoral activity. We put so many conditions on mercy that we empty it of its concrete meaning and real significance. That is the worst way of watering down the Gospel.

Hope all’s well. So, we continue to journey through this week with these little exercises to feel and touch God, in some way, through the senses. Today, focus on, reflect on hearing, listening. A couple of lines from sacred scripture. Isaiah 55:3. ‘Listen now, my people, and come to me; come to me and you will have life’ 1 Samuel 3:9 ‘Speak, Lord, your servant is listening’ Again, find a quiet corner somewhere. Maybe grab a coffee and sit in the garden - you might need your brolly though today ☂️. Be calm. Enter the silence of your inner being. Listen to the sounds around you. Now listen to the sounds within yourself. What do you hear? Remember St Augustine’s words, ‘Why climb the mountains or go into the valleys of the world for Him who dwells within us?’ Remember, the church will be open tomorrow Wednesday from 12noon until 3pm if you wish to pop in for a quiet prayer. Remember, too, and bring your face covering. If you are popping in for a visit, you’re asked not to stay for too long, please. This will ensure that as many people as possible can use the limited time and space, and because shorter visits reduce virus risk. Maybe 15-minutes max. As parishes have been asked to obtain a list of those who come to church in case the NHS needs contact details if someone who has attended church should become ill, the parish stewards will ask you for your contact details. Tomorrow’s sense to reflect on will be Feel / Touch Hope you have a good day Take care Fr Mackle We pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of Jack McRobbie whose anniversary it is today. Thoughts and prayers today are with Maura and her family. May God give Jack rest and peace in the kingdom of light. A few words...
Hope all’s well. As I was saying last week there, I came across something which I found helpful and I thought I might share it with you. It’s exercises to feel and touch God through the senses. So, it’s a little exercise focusing on a sense each day and with a little piece of sacred scripture seeing how we can deepen our awareness of the presence of God. Today’s exercise is See / Look at Here’s a couple of lines from scripture Psalm 63:2. ‘Let me see you in the sanctuary; let me see how mighty and glorious you are’ and Matthew 6: 26 & 28. ‘Look at the birds in the sky....look how the wild flowers grow...’ Now, maybe take a coffee and sit in the garden, or find a quiet corner somewhere, or when you’re out for your lockdown walk, take time to look at creation and discover what is really there. Focus your attention on one created thing that grabs your attention. Contemplate every detail of it. Now look at your own life. What do you see? When you look, know, be aware of God’s loving presence and deep concern for even the trivial aspects of your daily life. The whole of creation is God’s work, and just as he very lovingly takes care of all his creatures, so too does he have that same care in a particular way for every person - for you and for me. St Augustine tells us : ‘Why climb the mountains or go into the valleys of the world for Him who dwells within us?’ Remember, the church will be open on Wednesday from 12noon until 3pm if you wish to pop in for a quiet prayer. Remember, bring your face covering. If you are popping in for a visit, you’re asked not to stay for too long. Tomorrow’s sense to reflect on will be Listen. Hope you have a good day Take care Fr Mackle For funerals and all vigil and Sunday Masses, as well as times for private prayer parishes are being advised to get a list of attendees in case the NHS needs contact details if someone who has attended church should fall ill.
Those who visit for private prayer will be asked for their contact details by Parish Stewards as will those limited number of non-immediate family who are attending funerals. We will provide further information shortly on how contact details will be collected when Sunday Mass resumes. Thank you. |
