"I am the living bread that came down from heaven, says the Lord;
whoever eats this bread will live forever."

Huge THANK YOU to the P6 Pupils who came along to last Sunday’s P1 Welcome event. This was a great success with lots of families getting together before the new term. It was a huge help to have St Nics’ wonderful 'buddies' entertaining and playing with the new P1s. They’ll  love to see familiar faces when the crew of 32 start 'big school' in August. PFFA candidates can include last Sunday as a Parish Faith Action for their Parish Commendation.
Well done to everyone involved.

Assisted Dying:   What does it all mean?  Saturdays 17th and 24th June 2023 at 2pm St Aloysius’ Ogilvie Centre. Liam McArthur MSP is proposing a bill to legalise assisted dying.  This will undermine the right to life and put vulnerable people at risk of coming under pressure to end their  lives prematurely. A series of Holyrood Webinars on Assisted Dying, Euthanasia and Palliative Care will be shown featuring Professor Marie Fallon, Dr Miro Griffiths , Dr. Leonie Herx, and Tanni Grey Thompson,television presenter and former wheelchair racer. Discussion will follow and Gordon McDonald, CEO of Care not Killing will be in attendance All are most welcome.

Congratulations go to Hannah and Lola  Along with 1,500 young people from across Scotland, they were presented with the Caritas 2023 Award last Tuesday at the Clyde Auditorium. Great Caritas pics on our social media. Going into your final year of school after summer? Interested in becoming a Caritas candidate? Get in touch.   Visit www.caritasaward.org.
The last coffee morning before the summer will be to raise funds for research into dementia. Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. Almost one million people in the UK are living with Dementia right now (up nearly 25% in the last decade). There are currently no treatments available in the UK to stop the disease.
Through donations, this charity aims to develop ways to prevent, treat and ultimately cure all forms of dementia. There aren’t many of us whose lives haven’t been touched by someone who is living with dementia. We know what a cruel disease it is.
Please come along on the 18th to our coffee morning, treat your dad/grandad to some delicious home-baking, as it’s also Father’s Day and remember our dear parishioners who have lost their lives to this disease and help raise funds so that in the future our loved ones may have new treatments which they can access.
Thank you.
The family of Elise O’Hagan RIP

St Nicholas' Leavers' Mass and presentation to say farewell to the school's P7 pupils will be held on Tuesday 27th June at 6.30pm in the school.  Parents and family members most welcome.  The P7s will be very much missed. We wish them the very best of luck for the future. We wish them, too, and their families and the whole school community a lovely summer!

Congratulations, too, go to the Pope Francis Faith Award P7 champions who will be receiving their award at a ceremony on Thursday, 22nd  June (NB Date change) at 2.15pm in St Nicholas’. This is great news for the school and both parish communities. Parents and family members are invited to attend. Look out for the PFFA pics online.  P5s, it’s time to start thinking about becoming a PFFA candidate.

Catholic Social Teaching Thought for the Week - A little bit of mercy makes the world less cold and more just.   Pope Francis, Angelus, 17th March 2013

Laudato Si’ - On Care for our Common Home - This (treating the poor at the bottom of the pile) is due partly to the fact that many professionals, opinion makers, communications media and centres of power, being located in affluent urban areas, are far removed from the poor, with little direct contact with their problems. (#49)
