The July edition of our diocesan newspaper Flourish is now available in the porch. Includes Archbishop Tartaglia's welcome to visitors to Glasgow in the run up to the Commonwealth Games; hard-hitting Poverty Truth Commission report; ordination of Permanent Deacon, Joseph O'Donnell; inspirational Teacher of the Year, Gillian Campbell-Thow and retiral of Notre Dame headteacher, Phyllis McFadden; remarkable diary of Glasgow priest who was tank driver during the Normandy Campaign of 1944; the Golden Age of the Columba Community in Derry/Donegal; and how Glasgow priest, Fr Joe Lappin, and headteacher, Andrew McSorley, are progressing on the Camino to Santiago de Compostella

Today is Sea Sunday, when the Church prays for all those who live and work at sea. The second collection will be taken up for Apostleship of the Sea. For information about AoS’s work, visit www.apostleshipofthesea.org.uk

Interested in becoming a Catholic?  RCIA, the programme of catechesis and instruction, which prepares adults for the Sacraments, will begin after summer.  Please speak to Fr. Mackle, if you would like to know more about RCIA and the Catholic faith.

St Margaret of Scotland Hospice 5-A-Side Football Tournament at Goals on 17th August. Pick up a flyer from the porch. To register your team, visit: smosh.eventbrite.co.uk  or call 435 7018. A local group of the University of Third Age has been set up for people who are retired or semi-retired. If you would like to learn a new skill and meet like-minded people, the third Tuesday of every month at 11am in the Upper Hall is for you.

'Celebrating the Gift in Sport' Commonwealth Games Conference   - Interested in attending and representing St Andrew’s at a unique event to explore and celebrate the interweaving of sport, disability and faith? This Thursday, 17 July 9.30am to 5pm at Blessed John Duns Scotus, 270 Ballater Street, G5 0YT.  Tickets £40 – sponsored by the parish. To book, speak to Fr Mackle and contact [email protected]. The conference will include leading voices in the field of disability, faith and sport, and Special Olympic and Paralympic athletes will share their stories.

Prayer service for an end to Human Trafficking- Pope Francis' message to 103rd Session of International Labour Conference in May this year is that " human trafficking is a scourge, a crime against the whole of humanity. It is time to join forces and work together to free its victims and to eradicate this crime that affects us all." Please come along to an ecumenical prayer service on 21st July at 7pm in St Anne's church, 21 Whitevale Street, Dennistoun, G31 1QW.

25th Silver Anniversary Celebration. I would like to thank everyone who helped make Father Mackle’s Special Day such a success. The Mass was just perfect and the reception thoroughly enjoyed by all. Sincere thanks to all the bakers for the great variety of cakes and to Cafe Creme for the outstanding buffet and their help in serving it. I also appreciate the many phone calls of congratulations to "the team" - I have passed on your comments to them. Dorothy MacLean

The Halls Committee presented a caricature to Fr. Mackle in the hall last Thursday. Due to the large number attending, very few people were able to see it, therefore we have put a copy of it on display in the porch. Please enjoy a giggle at his expense!!!!!!!

Mother Teresa Exhibition documenting the life, spirituality and message of Blessed Mother Teresa is being staged at St Mungo's, 19 July to 2 August. Made up of 78 panels, it documents the story the life of the remarkable Missionary of Charity from her birth in Albania in 1910 to her death in Calcutta in 1997. It tells of her journey from her fist religious steps as a teenage nun to her incredible missionary work in India. Entry is free, and a short film to accompany the exhibition will be shown on Sunday 20 July at 3pm.

I + You = We Programme for the development of marital relations, 19- 20 July, Turnbull Hall. The "I + You = We" couple retreat consisting of lectures, workshops and individual dialogue will lead you through the six steps from routine to joy in marriage.  £70 per couple includes detailed teaching materials, tea/coffee and refreshments, lunch and dinner and e-coaching after programme. Calling Catechists  - Award in Catholic Theological Education If you would like the opportunity to develop your knowledge and understanding of the Catholic faith, this two-year part-time course may be of interest to you.  Primarily aimed at those who wish to exercise the ministry of Catechist in the parish, it is also suitable for those who wish to study for their own purposes.  For further information, or to request an application pack, contact the RE Dept on 226 5898 or email: [email protected]Pilgrimage to the Holy Land – 29th September to 6th October with the Archdiocese of Glasgow. £1095 for 8 days.
