Well done for establishing the Deanery Councils within a fairly short time frame. All councils have submitted their initial reports as requested for 18th June. After the summer the Evangelisation Steering Committee will respond with feedback to encourage Councils in continuing to reflect on how we can be an evangelising church and how we can best use our resources.

The Church which “goes forth” is a community of missionary disciples who take the first step, who are involved and supportive, who bear fruit and rejoice. An evangelising community knows that the Lord has taken the initiative, he has loved us first, and therefore we can move forward, boldly take the initiative, go out to others, seek those who have fallen away, stand at the crossroads and welcome the outcast.

In 1993 Nelson Mandela came to Glasgow to thank the "Citizens of Glasgow" for their support in the fight against apartheid in his native South Africa. This was the culmination of a long association between the city and his campaign for freedom. He was imprisoned in 1962.
Speaking at the City Chambers he said:
"While we were physically denied our freedom in the country of our birth, a city 6,000 miles away, Glasgow, refused to accept the legitimacy of the apartheid system, and declared us to be free. The people of Glasgow were the first in the world to confer on me the Freedom of the City at a time (1981) when I and my comrades in the ANC were imprisoned on Robben Island serving life sentences which, in apartheid South Africa, then meant imprisonment until death.''
“What counts in life is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.”
