"I will not leave you orphans, says the Lord.
I will come back to you, and your hearts will rejoice."

The Saturday Vigil Masses on 22nd May and 5th June will begin at 5.30pm. This is because we have a Confirmation Mass on both Saturdays at 3.30pm.

We give a big welcome to the 27 children and their families for the celebration of their First Holy Communion this weekend ~ a very special moment on their journey of faith. We thank all those who have been involved in helping the boys and girls to prepare over the past months at school, at home, and in the parish, and we pray that the blessings of the Eucharist will stay with the children for a long time to come.

Remember 9 @ 9 for this short prayer to the Holy Spirit. Pray it each night at 9pm for 9 nights through to next Saturday 22nd May. Let us unite in prayer and in spirit each night in this novena, these nine days of praying and waiting for the coming of the Holy Spirit.
9@9 Prayer
Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.
O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

National Rosary Day of Prayer for the intentions of our young people and for the intentions of the Mission of our Catholic Schools and Youth Associations ~ Monday May 24th - Feast of Our Lady, Mother of the Church. The Rosary day has a twofold aim: That the Rosary be prayed in our Schools that day and that we encourage the faithful to mightily intercede for all young people everywhere, all their intentions and for the Mission of our Catholic Schools.  Here is a link to a promotional video to encourage Schools, which has been prepared by Fr. Stephen Morrison O.Præm, who is a School Chaplain:  https://youtu.be/qqJI65D5Ogc

The Piety Stall online store has a large selection of First Holy Communion & Confirmation cards & gifts for sale. Orders can be placed and either collected from the organisers' homes, church house porch or delivery can be arranged if collection isn’t suitable. Piety stall.

Sacrament of Confirmation   Pupils preparing for Confirmation are encouraged to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Arrangements have been made for Confessions to be heard in the school for St Nicholas' pupils. All pupils at schools other than St Nicholas' and all S1 pupils are encouraged to make an effort to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
It's a good way to prepare and be ready to be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Times of Confessions are Saturdays 4.15pm - 4.45pm & Sundays 9.15am - 9.40am

Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation for S1 pupils will be at 1.30pm & 3.30pm on 22nd May and 1.30pm & 3.30pm on 23rd May. Please keep the candidates in your prayers. They have been waiting so patiently to be Confirmed.

Pope Francis Faith Award - P7 ceremony & (next year's P6)   An Award ceremony will be arranged at the school for the P7 candidates before the end of term.   Both parishes will work with St Nicholas’ to run a new cohort next session - it will be ‘opt in’. So, current P5s are invited to think about the PFFA.  Candidates will be invited to enrol in the new term and parish sign up will be arranged at this time.   St Nicholas' have passed on their sincere thanks to the PFFA team in both parishes for supporting the candidates with their endeavours.

A carpet of flowers for the unborn. On 22 May, at Carfin Grotto, SPUC Scotland will display 14,000 white flower images, one for every child lost to abortion in Scotland in one year, to create a ‘carpet of flowers for the unborn’. Bishop Toal will bless the physical display at 2pm.  If you would like to sponsor a virtual flower, please visit www.whiteflower.org.uk or call SPUC Scotland (0141 221 2094) to make a donation.

The Mass will be live streamed.

Catholic Social Teaching Thought for the Week - 16th May (Ascension of the Lord)In His solemn prayer for the Church’s unity, Christ Our Lord did not ask His Father to remove His disciples from the world: “I pray not that thou shouldst take them out of the world, but that thou shouldst keep them from evil.” Let no man therefore imagine that a life of activity in the world is incompatible with spiritual perfection. The two can very well be harmonized.Pope Saint John XXIII, Mater et Magistra, para 255

If you would like to know more or wish to be updated when a new group starts, contact Aura Murphy on 07881 445565 or email auramurphy@gmail.com.

Covid Update
No changes to the 50 capacity at weddings and funerals.
More than one cantor may sing at religious services. Still no congregational singing, though.   Hugging only applies in private dwellings or gardens between close family and friends. It does not mean that we can begin to shake hands at the sign of peace or as people enter/leave church etc.
The Scottish Government is reviewing social distancing. This might involve changing the 2m distancing.
6 people from 3 households can now meet indoors in church halls or chapel houses.
