and renew the face of the earth."
First Holy Communion We welcome all 45 children and their families this weekend for this very special moment on their journey of faith. We thank all who have been involved in helping them to prepare for this special time, at school, at home, and in the parish. We pray that the blessings of the Eucharist will stay with the children for a long time to come and that they will become committed members of the Body of Christ. The Mass will be live streamed on our YouTube Channel. https://www.youtube.com/@standrewsbearsden
Save the date: For all the First Communicants and their families, there will be a Mass of Thanksgiving at 10a.m. on Sunday 9th June followed by a big First Holy Communion party.
Our piety stall has a fine selection of First Communion cards and various for all occasions.

Laudato Si’ – On Care for our Common Home – In the Bible, the God who liberates and saves is the same God who created the universe, and these two divine ways of acting are intimately and inseparably connected: “Ah Lord God! It is you who made the heavens and the earth by your great power and by your outstretched arm!" (Jer 32:17). (#73)
This year, the theme of Laudato Si’ week, 19 – 26 May, is "Seeds of Hope", inspired by Laudate Deum which exhorts: "There are no lasting changes without cultural changes [...] and there are no cultural changes without personal changes" (LD 70). Why not sign up for the free newsletter of the Laudato Si’ Movement to find out more about what is going on to bring about this cultural change:- https://laudatosimovement.org/
This Laudato Si’ Week and Pentecost, we are invited to gather in community to contemplate and nurture seeds of hope for our “suffering planet” (LD 2). On Thursday 23rd May, the Scottish Laity Network has organised an online seminar, 7.00-8.30 pm, on Imagining a Christian Response to the Climate Crisis. Head Teacher Post - EDC has advised in a recent letter that after the summer break Mrs Grogan will take up her new appointment at headteacher of Balmuildy Primary School. We thank Mrs Grogan for her nine years as headteacher between the two schools of St Andrew's and St Nicholas’ and wish her well in her new role. A new appointment will be made in due course.
Summer Mass Schedule. In order that one priest is able to say Masses in both St Andrew's and St Joseph's during July and August, a Mass schedule has been drawn up by the Pastoral Area Council. As it has become increasingly difficult to arrange a summer supply priest, due to there being fewer priests now, a reduced number of Masses for July and August has become necessary. The summer Mass schedule leaflet will be distributed this weekend.
Walk for Vocations - Whole Deanery is invited. Gathering will be at Lidl - McDonald’s in Kirkintilloch on Sunday 9th June at 2.30p.m. to reach Schoenstatt at 5p.m. for Holy Rosary. Route is mostly along paths but there are some roads to cross. Wear walking shoes and it might be raining. Children, young persons and vulnerable adults must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times. It would be great if some folk could meet us at Schoenstatt for the Rosary… and bring some drivers back to Kirkintilloch!
The new lectionary - the new translation of the readings at Mass will come into use from 1st December, the beginning of Advent. The English Standard Version Catholic Edition has been chosen by the Bishops of Scotland to ensure that ‘the treasures of the Bible can be opened up more lavishly for the faithful at the table of God’s word.’ If you use a missal, you will need to replace yours. The Catholic Truth Society and other publishers will be producing the Sunday and Weekday Missals. The app, Universalis, has advised that it will ensure that the new texts are available for Advent.
