Catholic Social Teaching Thought for the Week - Sunday 19th November 2023 (World Day of the Poor)
It is necessary to confront together the populist discourses of intolerance, xenophobia, and aporophobia, which is hatred of the poor. Like everything that leads us to indifference, meritocracy and individualism, these narratives only serve to divide our peoples, and to undermine and nullify our poetic capacity, the capacity to dream together. Pope Francis, Message on the occasion of the 4th World Meeting of Popular Movements

Laudato Si’ – In the meantime, economic powers continue to justify the current global system where priority tends to be given to speculation and the pursuit of financial gain, which fail to take the context into account, let alone the effects on human dignity and the natural environment. (#56)

WORLD TOILET DAY – 19th November How often do we count our blessings like having a toilet, an everyday essential that millions of people still don’t have? 1.7 billion people don’t have somewhere safe and hygienic to go to the toilet.  In Ivory Coast, more than three-quarters of the population lacks a loo. But toilet twinning can transform lives. It’s simple, its fun but it's also really, really important. Our church has recently twinned its 4 toilets with 1 each in Afghanistan, Cote d’Ivoire, Honduras and DRC. To find out more and get twinning, visit:toilettwinning.org

Lentfest 2024 - Call for Participants:  AGAP is seeking actors for forthcoming theatre productions.
Open Auditions will be held on 4th December 5p.m.-8p.m. in the Eyre Hall, 196 Clyde Street, G1 4JY. Please download the info pack with audition pieces and complete a short form. AGAP is keen to hear from musicians, poets and anyone wishing to take part in Lentfest as a performer or helper, and from any person or organisation wishing to propose an event for inclusion in the festival programme. Please visit: linktr.ee/agapglasgowor call 0141 552 5527

Red Wednesday 22nd November - Aid to the Church in Need is a Pontifical Foundation of the Catholic Church, supporting the Catholic faithful and other Christians where they are persecuted, oppressed or in pastoral need.  Find out what is happening on Wednesday by checking https://acnuk.org/event/rw-scotland-event-2023/  and show your support by praying the Rosary for persecuted Catholics on Wednesday and following one of the events highlighted.

Our parish’s visiting team started their visits last week - knocking doors and saying hello to folk.  Do remember the team in your prayers.

The Church is open until 5p.m. Monday to Saturday. Call in and enjoy the peace and quiet, and take time to sit in the stillness in the silence of God.

Tea is served in the hut after daily Mass Monday to Thursday. All most welcome.

Before receiving Holy Communion, we are asked to make some act of reverence such as a bow.
