World Day of Prayer for Vocations.

Vocations Vigil at Turnbull Hall this Friday 7 -11.00 pm.  Mass at 7pm. Rehearsal times for First Holy Communion  For 10th May First Holy Communion Mass - Wednesday 6th May, 10am Mass followed by rehearsal.  For 17th May First Holy Communion Mass -  Wednesday 13th May, 10am Mass followed by rehearsal. Piety Stall: First Holy Communion Cards and gifts and other cards and gifts on sale from the piety stall in the porch.

The Soup Run - this Friday.  Donations of soup, sandwiches & biscuits will be gratefully received from 7pm.  Soup Run leaves at 8pm. Your continuing support is very much appreciated.

St Andrew’s Whist Drive this Monday 27th April in the Lower Hall at 7.30pm. All, including beginners, will be made very welcome. Thanksgiving Mass today, Sunday, at 2.30pm in memory of Sister Dorothea Sweeney SND and Sister Patrick Chaplin SND who gave years of service to Catholic Education in Notre Dame / St Andrew’s College. Teas / coffees will be served in the Lower hall after Mass. All are very welcome.

50th Anniversary Mass for SCIAF – this Thurs at 7pm - celebrated by Archbishop Tartaglia in the Cathedral.  Reception after Mass.  All are most welcome. Good luck to Kevin Farmer who will be running the London Marathon today, Sunday, for SCIAF’s 50th anniversary. Still time to sponsor Kevin and support SCIAF by going to www.justgiving.com/Kevin-Farmer/ or sign the form in the porch.

Catholic Youth Festival - Thanks to generous donations, we now have funds to sponsor four youths to attend. We would like to give as many of our young people as possible the opportunity to experience the fun, prayer and joy of Catholic Youth Festival this summer from 30 July to 2 August at University of Stirling Campus. If you are keen to go let us know, and also please contact Youth Chaplain, Fr John Sweeney to register  – email: [email protected] The event is open to those 14 -25 years of age. Cost £150.

We aim to form a group of the Legion of Mary (men and women). If you are interested, please come along to an information meeting in the chapel-house on Tues, 12th May at 7pm. All are very welcome. Please pray for the success of this intention to form, once again, a Legion of Mary in the parish.

The Real Dangers of Assisted Suicide. John Deighan will give a talk in the Upper Hall at 7:30pm on Thursday 28th May 2015 in which he will respond to the arguments commonly used to advance assisted suicide, i.e. that it stems from compassion and a respect for personal choice. John is well placed to give this talk having been the Parliamentary Officer for the Catholic Bishops’ Conference for 16 years before recently taking up the position of Chief Executive Officer for the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children. He has been heavily involved in organising the efforts to prevent euthanasia and assisted suicide being legalised in Scotland since the creation of the Scottish Parliament. His talk on this highly topical subject will begin with tea and coffee and there will be an opportunity for questions and discussion afterwards.

Concert in aid of the Red Cross Defibrillator Appeal this evening, Sunday 26th April at 6.30pm in the Baptist Church on Roman Rd. The music, played by the Fotheringay Chamber Orchestra, will last about an hour and will be followed by tea, coffee and delicious home-baking. Padre Pio Prayer Group – every Monday at 7pm. All are very welcome.

St Andrew’s Primary PTA are hosting a Beer Tasting Evening for Dads, Uncles, Grandas and friends (strictly over 18s) on Friday 1st May 2015, 7.30pm for 8pm start in the School Hall. The event is sponsored by Hippo Beers, who will take you on a journey around the world to sample different beers. There will also be a quiz and a raffle with fabulous prizes. The cost of admission is £10.00 per person, which includes sampling four beers. Tickets must be purchased in advance from Anne on 07866 009078.

Want to know more about Justice & Peace issues in our parish and beyond?  Please come along to a short presentation by Grace Buckley, on Thursday 7th May at 7pm in the church hall.  It’s an opportunity to find out a bit more about J&P issues generally, ask questions as well as find out a little bit about the various groups in St Andrews.  There's no obligation to get involved any further but new members to our parish J&P would be extremely welcome. 

SVDP--Michael Henry is standing down as president of the parish’s SVDP conference, but will continue to be involved in the work of the society at St Andrews.  We would like to thank Mick for all his hard work during his tenure as president, in successfully promoting the aims and values of the Society within and beyond our Parish.
