"Remember your mercies, O Lord"

It is with regret we have to announce the sudden but peaceful passing of Ann Blair, a former Ladies Champion of the St. Andrew’s Carpet Bowls.  On behalf of all the members, we wish to extend our sincere sympathy to Alison and  her family.  May she rest in peace.

A Message from Archbishop Tartaglia regarding the celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation for our young people during the 2020-21 pastoral and school session.
Regarding the current P7 cohort of candidates: I propose that we wait to see if the Covid-19 virus can be suppressed sufficiently to allow a condensed but more or less normal programme of Confirmation later in the 2020-21 session.
Regarding the cohort of candidates who were last year’s P7 and this year’s S1: I propose that they be confirmed between now and Christmas.
Due to the lockdown of last spring, I had to cancel 15 liturgies of Confirmation. The key to being able to confirm these candidates at this time is that, instead of in clusters of parishes, they should be confirmed parish by parish, in such a way that numbers can be kept down.

From Fr Mackle - Our parish is therefore currently making arrangements for the Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation for all S1 pupils to take place some time before Christmas and all families will soon be advised.

First Confessions  - Saturday 3rd or 10th Oct   10am – 11am.

Parish Youth Ministry Training ONLINE!   Interested in finding out more about parish-based youth ministry?  You can do so from the comfort of your own home this Oct/Nov by joining RCAG Youth online for various training sessions that cover what a youth night looks like with younger youth and young adults and how to speak to and pray with young people.  There are four sessions but you are free to attend as many as you want.  For more information and to register, check out the PYM Training events on www.rcagyouth.eventbrite.co.uk

Discerning a Vocation to the Priesthood? If you think God may be inviting you to such a vocation, pray hard about it, and have a chat with one of the parish clergy. The archdiocesan Vocations Director, Fr  Ross Campbell, is also more that happy to be contacted for a chat -  rosscampbell81@gmail.com (339 4315)   Pray for priests. Pray for more priests for our archdiocese. Pray for our seminarians.

Videos of First Confession and First Communion rehearsals will be sent out soon to all families.

First Holy Communion Masses - 2pm - 1st, 8th& 15th November. As I am sure you will appreciate, these Masses will be very different from what we are normally used to, but they will be no less special occasions of celebration for the boys and girls.  We keep them all in our prayers.

Remember, face coverings will need to be worn for both First Confession and First Holy Communion.

Confirmations – the archdiocese is currently working on arrangements for Confirmations of last year’s P7s (this year’s S1s), and as soon as we learn what they are we will write to all the families.

For all P3 and P4 Families    The intended dates for First Confession for the current P3s will be sometime during the Season of Lent 2021.   The intended dates for First Communions for the current P4s will be sometime after Easter 2021.

October Devotions – we invite you to unite in prayer for live streamed Rosary and Benediction each Sunday at 4.30pm.

Due to the current ongoing local restrictions in EDC and the surrounding areas, visits to the school, including by clergy, are now being put on hold. The school is content though for the outside visit / short liturgy for P1 still to go ahead. Plus, we’re working on live streaming first Friday liturgies to pupils and staff in their classes.

RCIA - If you or someone you know isn’t baptised or baptised in another Christian tradition and would like to enquire about becoming Catholic, please get in touch. Email standrew@rcag.org.uk

As seating capacity in the church is much reduced due to current social distancing guidelines, a booking system is required.  To register to use the booking system, please go to www.standrewsbearsden   Please note that the obligation to attend Sunday Mass continues to be suspended. It is still fine not to go to Mass during these circumstances.

Here's some helpful guidance from the Bishops' Conference of Scotland
Please familiarise yourself with it ahead of attending Mass.

Drumchapel Foodbank - Thanks to all of our Parishioners who are donating food and toiletries to our collection point in the Chapel House porch to be delivered to Drumchapel Food Bank.  Regularly your donations are dropped off at the foodbank by our parish volunteers. . Thanks for continuing to help.
Our parish’s soup-run’s volunteers continue to collect food donations form M&S Byres Road for delivery  to Drumchapel and St Gregory’s Foodbanks and the Wayside Club.

With our piety stall remaining closed, we are offering individual cards for posting, or collection from the chapel house porch. We have a full range of cards for almost every occasion, all £1 or 40p each. P&P is £1 per order (up to 4 cards) or free if collected from the chapel house porch. Email Annamaria (a.strachan@dunelm.org.uk) to place an order. Payment is by bank transfer or cheque.

Parish Website – Bulletin - Just to say that on the latest page and the bulletin page, a subscribe button has been added which allows users to have a daily summary sent each morning with the previous day's posts. If you don't use social media, but would like to be kept posted, then all that's asked for is your email address  – you can unsubscribe at any time – it's all clearly marked.
