Archbishop Nolan's Easter message ~
“Christ is risen, Alleluia”.
We should say those words with joy in our heart. For this is the core of the Christian message, this is the centre of the good news. These words assure us that death is not the end, that the sufferings of Calvary, the cross and crucifixion do not last; that death will be overcome by life, the fullness of life.
Just as for Jesus, so also for us, the light of day will banish the darkness of night. Therefore, if we struggle just now with our own Calvary, may the resurrection of Jesus encourage us to persevere; if we mourn the death of a loved one, may the resurrection lighten our sadness with the assurance of life eternal; if we struggle to see how the many problems of the world can be overcome, may the resurrection give us hope.
Christ has risen, he is risen indeed.
Alleluia.

Some consider reconciliation as an impossible dream which ideally might become the lever for a true transformation of society. For others it is to be gained by arduous efforts and therefore a goal to be reached through serious reflection and action. Whatever the case, the longing for sincere and consistent reconciliation is without a shadow of doubt a fundamental driving force in our society, reflecting an irrepressible desire for peace. Pope Saint John Paul II, Reconciliatio et Paenitentia, para 3
Laudato Si’ – On Care for our Common Home - This responsibility for God’s earth means that human beings, endowed with intelligence, must respect the laws of nature and the delicate equilibria existing between the creatures of this world. (#68)

Just to keep you posted regarding the Parishes/Archdiocesan programme of looking to the future. The stage we are at now is that the Archbishop has asked Pastoral Area Councils to look at how best pastoral care can be provided for the next five to ten years within their own pastoral area. St Andrew’s & St Joseph’s Pastoral Area Council will meet on 4th April to discuss this, and any proposals which emerge are to be submitted to the Archbishop by 19th May. We'll keep you fully advised. With the falling number of practising Catholics, the current shortage of priests, and with a vocations dearth, the Archbishop is undoubtedly faced with having to take tough and difficult decisions. Do keep him and the Archdiocese in your prayers.
