“Young man, I tell you, arise!”
The Caritas Award was created as a legacy of the visit of Pope Benedict to Scotland and has been in place for a few years. It is focused on any pupil in their final year of school and allows them to respond to the Pope`s call to young people to put their faith into action. St. Andrew`s Parish is now able to support young people in their final year of school to achieve this award. The Caritas Award gives you the opportunity to learn more about your faith by reflecting on scripture and the Pope`s teachings at 4 short meetings throughout the year. You must also volunteer to take part in different ministries in Church and the local community, eg. reading or passkeeping at Mass, getting involved with the parish's Justice and Peace Group, helping with Fairtrade or taking part in fundraising activities. It is a rewarding and enjoyable way to learn more about your faith with people your own age and also get a chance to show love of neighbour through your volunteering activities. Additionally, it helps you develop key skills like team working, make new friends, set yourself challenges, develop your CV and improve your confidence. The First Communicants all gather today, Sunday 10.00 a.m, for their Thanksgiving Mass during which they will be presented with their First Holy Communion certificate, and then invited after Mass into the hall with their families for a party.
Family Fun Summer BBQ - Sun, 12th June 1.30pm – 4pm in St Andrew’s Church halls and grounds. Food and Fun for all the Family! Soft drinks included …otherwise BYOB. Tickets Adults: £1 Children: 50p on sale. Organised by St Andrew’s, St Benedict’s, St Joseph’s and St Laurence’s cluster. Many thanks.
The Comboni Missionaries (Verona Fathers) will be visiting our parish 18th / 19th June to speak to us about their Mission Appeal. There will be second collection taken up to support the Verona Fathers in their missionary work.
St Margaret’s Children and Family Care Society Annual Mass and Gathering, next Sunday 12th June 2pm in the Cathedral. Refreshments and children’s entertainment will follow. All are most welcome.

Laudato Si Week: Care for our Environment - To celebrate the anniversary of Laudato Si, the Global Catholic Climate Movement are launching Laudato Si Week, June 12-19, a major international celebration of the Pope’s encyclical release anniversary. The goal is to reflect on the encyclical message and take action to bring it to life. In advance of this we are asked to read the encyclical and decide how we are going to do our bit in relation to the environmental crisis. Refugee Scotland Festival: 14th-26th June - Please keep an eye out for the Refugee Scotland Festival. This is an annual Scotland-wide programme of arts, cultural, educational, heritage and sports events. The festival brings together people from refugee and local communities to celebrate the contributions refugees make to life in Scotland and the welcome offered by local people. The theme for this year's festival is solidarity. Now, more than ever, we need to stand together with people who've had to flee their homes and are now trying to build new lives here. Justice and Peace Group.
