PFFA participants, think about choosing a Faith Action to get involved with in the parish. Maybe you are already involved. That’s good. If not, there’s altar serving, handing out bulletins, holding the SVDP box, helping with passkeeping or children’s liturgy or the sacristy to think about. You might want to join the children’s choir or assist at some youth events or read at Mass. Just let us know.  PFFA Parish enrolment Mass - 10am  3rd Nov.
 
We welcome all the Primary Three children and their families for the 10.00 a.m. Mass of Enrolment for the Sacraments.

October Devotions honour of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, there will be Rosary & Benediction on the Sundays of October. 4.30pm – 5.00pm. Praying especially during this Extraordinary Mission Month for the entire Church to bear witness to our faith with missionary vitality.
 
Bishop Robert Barron's “Pivotal Players” series begins this Thursday, October 10, at 7pm inthe upper hall. The first episode will concentrate on Blessed John Henry Newman, who is due to be canonised by Pope Francis the following Sunday, October 13. Please join us for tea/coffee and Bishop Barron’s insight into this important figure in the Church.

Evening Pilgrimage to Carfin – Sunday 13th Oct. Bus will leave at 6.30pm at Milngavie. Train Station. All are very welcome.
 
For the attention of all volunteers in St Andrew’s parish working with children or protected adults - please check the date on your PVG form. Those whose form is dated 2014 are now required to update their PVG and are asked to contact the Safeguarding Office on  226 5898     [email protected], as soon as possible.  
All volunteers should now have attended the mandatory Safeguarding level 1 training.  For those who still require to attend, please note the next Level 1 training dates, which take place in Eyre Hall, Archdiocese of Glasgow, G1 4JY  are: Monday 7th October ; Saturday 23rd November (2 sessions am & pm; Saturday 7th December.  
The mandatory Induction part 2 training is also now in place, which all volunteers require to attend. Training dates for Part 2 are: Saturday 26th October (2 sessions am & pm) in Eyre Hall, Archdiocese of Glasgow; Wednesday 13th November in  Our Lady of Lourdes, Cardonald, G52 3QU; Monday 2nd December  in St Mary’s, Duntocher, G81 6DL; Saturday 7th December in Eyre Hall, Archdiocese of Glasgow, G1 4JY.
It is essential to book a place to ensure that there will be handouts for you.

Piety Stall On behalf of the parish, our sincere thanks to Mrs Lily Keegan for all of her help with serving in the Piety Stall for the past 11 years.We are extremely grateful to Lily for giving up so much of her spare time to assist us with running the stall and helping us raise money for Parish funds.  The new rota for the remainder of 2019 is on the Piety Stall door – we would be particularly grateful for volunteers to assist after 10am Mass on a Sunday.If you would like more information, please either call Anne MacIntosh (931 5861) or Annamaria Strachan (942 9799). 
 
Calling S1 Young People- A social and catchup in St. Joseph's Hall on Saturday 9th November. 630pm to 830pm. Games, crafts,Pizza, Karaoki and much more. Tell your friends. Organised by Caritas students.
 
Baptised & Sent - Extraordinary Mission Month October 2019. Pope Francis has called on the entire Church in this extraordinary mission month to bear witness to our faith with missionary vitality. Missio Scotland is the pope’s charity for the missions. Missio packs available from the porch. Wee Missio Boxes to be returned, please, by 24th November.
 
Coffee Morning—Sunday 20th October. Please come along and join us in the upper hall, after10 am, for tea, coffee and some delicious home baking. This month we are raising funds for our Parish Soup Run. This is run by a group of our parishioners who volunteer to take soup and sandwiches, on the first Friday of each month, to 2 temporary accommodation centres in the east and west end (Belgrove and Aspire).Funds will be used to buy essential items for those transitioning from temporary accommodation to a permanent home. Many thanks also to those who helped and came along to the coffee morning last month at which the sum of £170 was raised for SCIAF. Your generosity is very much appreciated. A ‘thank you’ letter from SCIAF is posted on the Narthex board.
 
Embroidery Group will now meet on Monday afternoons in the Lower Church Hall from 2pm - 4pm. We are very grateful to a parishioner who has kindly donated quality fabrics, threads and sewing kits to our group. We intend to make use of these, and any additional items will be sold to raise funds for the parish.More details to follow. If anyone in the parish is interested in joining our group, please come along.
 
Catholic Social Teaching Thought for the Week  Believers themselves must constantly feel challenged to live in a way consonant with their faith and not to contradict it by their actions. Date for your Dairy - 14th November  The Justice and Peace Groups from St Andrew’s, Bearsden, and St. Joseph’s, Milngavie, have joined with members of New Kilpatrick, Bearsden, in organising an evening to hear the views on Trident of church representatives and local politicians. Father John Gannon and the Very. Alan D. McDonald will present the churches position. Localwill also be represented.event will be held in St. Andrew’shall from.30pm–pmwith refreshments a chance to speak with speakers atbreak. Please comeand hear all views. 
 
Mary’s Mealssincerely thank St Andrew’s Parish – Raffle ticket sales raised £1716.03, and 267 bags of clothing were donated.

The Befriending Service: Bearsden & Milngavie aims to tackle loneliness and social isolation in the communities of East Dunbartonshire. Locally the service provides this by telephone, 1-2-1 and group support. It’s free and has a variety of social events during the year, and is always looking for more volunteers. If you need support or want to volunteer, contact: [email protected] 0141-345-0432  The Befriending Service will have an information stall in the hall at the next coffee morning on 20th October.
 
The church is open until 4.45pm. Call in and enjoy the peace and quiet, and take time to sit in the stillness in the silence of God.  

Tea is served in the hut after 10am daily Mass. All most welcome.
 
St Andrew's and St Joseph's continue to workvarious ways in an attempt to bring our parishes closer together. The clustering group meets 4/5a year and is still looking for a few more members. If you think that you might be interested in helping this growing endeavour, please let Fr Mackle know. Next meeting 29th Oct 7pm in St Andrew’s.
