"He makes the deaf hear and the dumb speak."

St Andrew’s Parish Retreat - Sunday 4th October. 12noon Mass – Benediction 4.30pm. Bring a light lunch (Tea and coffee provided). The event is for all Parishioners and it is hoped that as many of you as possible will attend. Please indicate your interest on the sign up sheet available in the Porch as soon as possible to help those organising the retreat to plan the event.  Theme - “Abiding Presence” will help to focus on God’s love in the Eucharist. The interactive programme for the day will be presented by a team of experienced and trained lay-people, under the guidance of a priest-director, organised by the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament.

Deacon Tommy Thompson has completed a period of service in St Ninian’s, Knightswood. Since St Andrew’s, Bearsden, has need of pastoral assistance and since Deacon Tommy has the qualities to serve as parish deacon in St Andrew’s, Archbishop Tartaglia has re-assigned him to the parish for diaconal ministry. We welcome back Deacon Tommy and look forward to his serving and ministering as Parish Deacon in the parish.

Nick Pryce has now begun his third year in the Diaconate Formation Programme. Keep him and all candidates for permanent diaconate and priesthood in your prayers.

This Friday 11th September the House of Commons will debate and vote on a Bill to legalise assisted suicide. This will put the most vulnerable people in our society at risk. A number of Scottish MP’s have indicated their intention to vote on this Bill. Please contact your MP, urging them to attend the debate and vote against the Bill. You can find guidance on meeting with or contacting your MP at the Care Not Killing website www.carenotkilling.org.uk/bill2015

An invitation to any carers in the parish who would like to start a monthly coffee group. It can be a lonely job looking after someone and it might be nice to get together once a month for a chat and to support each other. If people are interested, email or contact me with suitable times/dates that would be best for you. I'll then try to find a time that suits most people or we could alternate a couple of days/times. Annamaria Strachan 01419429799/07749715514 a.strachan@dunelm.org.uk"

Many thanks to the parishioner who generously donated £500 for the church redecoration project. How about holding or organising a fundraising event to raise money for Re-decoration of the church and re-carpeting of the sanctuary, the approximate cost of which is £22,000?

Mary’s meals offers help by collecting unwanted/unused clothing and bedding, curtains, towels, handbags, shoes, belts and turning them into funds to carry out work overseas.  Rags can raise money that in turn helps us to feed starving children.  A few Black Poly Bags of clothes can help feed a child for a year (approx £12.20).  The van will collect after our Masses on 26th / 27th September—no bric-a-brac please.

Knitters--85 teddies have been passed onto Team Lewis, which will be a great support for the phenomenal work they do.  We still have some wool and stuffing left so if anyone would like to put their knitting needles to good use, please text Anne on 07866 009078.  Thank you, St Andrew’s Primary PTA
