"Stay awake and be ready!
For you do not know on wha
t day your Lord will come."

Eco-Friendly ~ With St Andrew’s continuing to be Eco-Friendly, our weekly bulletin and any pastoral letters will continue to be Paperless and be posted on our website, Facebook and Twitter.  Our Instagram account will be up and running again soon.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary falls on a Monday this year. It is therefore transferred to the nearest Sunday and will be celebrated on 14th August.

Sign Up Sunday – 11th September at all three Masses. Our parish needs more volunteers to take forward some of the synod gatherings’ suggestions made by Parishioners about what we can do differently in the Parish. Amongst themes identified
  • pastoral support
  • reaching out to all
  • learning about our Faith
  • continue to encourage youth
  • enhance communication and
  • more social events.
We are looking for more people to get involved in these areas of the parish’s life and mission.  Please think about signing up for involvement in an area of parish life. Come to Sign-up Sunday, upper hall, 11th September. Information about all the parish’s groups will be posted out to all soon.

Save the date ~ Pastoral Visit of Archbishop Nolan to our parish will be on 26th & 27th November when he will celebrate all the Masses. We look forward to welcoming the Archbishop for what will be the beginning of Advent.

First Holy Communions Families – the Legion of Mary will be visiting the families of all the children who celebrated their First Holy Communion this year.

Daily & Sunday Mass – Catholic TV is good for anyone who can’t get out to Mass.
Catholic Social Teaching Thought for the Week - Sunday 7th August - We beg all governments not to remain deaf to this cry of humanity. That they do all that is in their power to save peace. They will thus spare the world from the horrors of a war whose terrifying consequences no one can predict.
Pope Saint John XXIII, Message to President Kennedy and Premier Khrushchev, October 1962
(At the height of the Cuban Missile Crisis Pope John XXIII wrote to both the United States of America and the Soviet Union. The message was broadcast the next day on Vatican Radio, and dominated headlines around the world, including Pravda; the official newspaper of the Soviet Communist Party. The events of October 1962 are thought to be the closest the world has ever come to nuclear war. It is considered that the intervention of Pope John prevented further escalation. This week the anniversaries of the use of nuclear weapons against the peoples of Hiroshima (6 August), and Nagasaki (9 August) in 1945 are remembered. These remain the only times in human history nuclear weapons were used in conflict.)

Laudato Si’ - On Care for our Common Home - We have not yet managed to adopt a circular model of production capable of preserving resources for present and future generations, while limiting as much as possible the use of non-renewable resources, moderating their consumption, maximizing their efficient use, reusing and recycling them. A serious consideration of this issue would be one way of counteracting the throwaway culture which affects the entire planet, but it must be said that only limited progress has been made in this regard. (#22)
World Day against People trafficking was last Saturday 30th July. Please say a prayer and be aware of victims of human trafficking. If you suspect that someone is in slavery, call the Modern Slavery Helpline on 08000 121 700, or download the “Unseen” App on your phone through Windows, iTunes or Google Play.

Interested in becoming a Catholic?– Not baptised? Baptised in another faith? RCIA will begin in the autumn. The programme of learning and instruction prepares adults for the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist. Please speak to Fr. Mackle if you would like to know more about RCIA and the Catholic faith.

It is pleasant to spend time adoring Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.  The Eucharist is such a priceless treasure ~ by praying before it, we are able to make contact with Christ present in the Most Holy Sacrament.   Saturdays 10am until 11am.  Confessions throughout. Confessions – Also on Saturdays 4.15pm – 4.45pm & Sundays 9.15am – 9.40am

Before receiving Holy Communion, we are asked to make some preparatory act of reverence such as a bow.

The Padre Pio Prayer Group meets after 10am Mass each Monday in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. All most welcome.

Evening trip to Carfin - Bus will leave from Milngavie Railway Station on Saturday 13th August at 6pm and return around 9pm.

Do remember that our church is now open weekdays until 5pm, and on Saturdays until after the 5pm Vigil Mass. Call in and enjoy the peace and quiet, and take time to sit in the stillness in the silence of God. Teas and coffees are served in the hut after daily 10am Mass. All most welcome.

Annulment and Marriage Validation - see Fr Mackle to learn more about the process if you are divorced and remarried or never married in the Catholic Church. There is now no charge to the petitioner for marriage cases at the Tribunal.

Support for Women Affected By Separation and Divorce. We are a new, and much needed, ministry across the Archdiocese of Glasgow and have been set up by a small group of women who know what it's like to carry the hurt, guilt, shame and anxiety caused by marriage breakdown.  We have all walked this journey and have had to start life over and have been delighted to support other women over the last few months who need a listening ear, help, guidance or just to know that life will get better, and it will, because you are a daughter of God.
We understand that taking the first step to seek support can be difficult and you never need to share personal details of your situation, but often it helps to speak to others who have been where you are.  We can promise you that a warm welcome awaits along with great cake, tea, coffee and lots of tissues (just in case).
Dates of the next meetings are:  Friday, 19th August,  Friday, 2nd September and Friday, 7th October.  All in St Patrick's Church Hall in Dumbarton from 6pm until 8pm.
