An Advent Challenge – many people, less than a mile from us, are hungry. Can we help? Yes. If each person attending weekend Mass in St Andrew’s could bring just one food item each week in Advent, we could make a difference. Tins or packets of everyday food and household goods are in great demand, especially those food items which can be heated without using a lot of fuel. The need is real. Please help.

Altar Servers’ Awards.   This weekend, four Servers (Katie Sheridan, Eva Pryce, Andrew McKechnie & David Docherty) are due to be officially enrolled into the Archconfraternity of St. Stephen and each will receive the familiar bronze medal on a red cord.  All four have demonstrated, by assisting at Mass regularly for over two years, their commitment to their parish ministry by serving at the Altar.  At the same time, acknowledgement of long-standing service is also being made to two Servers (Sophie Joint & Christopher Daniel), each of whom has served faithfully for over 5 years, this recognition being marked by exchanging their red cord for a yellow cord.  There are now seven Servers who have earned a ‘yellow cord’. Well done and congratulations to all concerned.  We are very fortunate at St. Andrew’s to have so many (23) good and committed Servers.

400th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Saint John Ogilvie. AGAP will present a revised version of the popular play that took place in 2012 with many of the original cast.  We are looking for actors aged 16+ to fill the remaining parts.  Auditions - 8 December at 7.30 pm and rehearsals will take place on Mondays and Thursdays at 7.30 pm - 9.30 pm in St Michael's hall, Parkhead. Visit www.agap.org.uk  Help needed with production, backstage and technical. Please contact AGAP.
The logo designed to mark next year's 400th anniversary of the martyrdom of St John Ogilvie at Glasgow Cross was launched last week. Keep an eye out for the logo which will mark all the events planned by the Archdiocese to commemorate our very own saint and martyr. St John Ogilvie - pray for us

Nomination Forms for Parish Pastoral Council membership are available in the porch. Members are appointed to serve a three year term and membership is open to active parishioners over the age of 16. We are particularly looking for parishioners who would represent, on the PPC, the youth of the parish. Please complete this form and return it by Sunday, 18th January 2015. The Council is a planning body of parishioners which fosters the full participation of the entire parish in the life and mission of the Church as lived out in St. Andrew’s Parish. In consultation with the Parish Priest, the PPC actively listens to and identifies the needs and concerns of parishioners and helps develop a plan to respond to those needs.

Care Not Killing Petition. Please sign the petition in the porch which opposes a change to the existing legalisation on assisted suicide as proposed in the Assisted Suicide (Scotland) Bill … The petition calls upon MSPs of all parties to vote against legal change which is unnecessary, puts vulnerable people at risk and is unethical. Please take the time to find out more, view the full text of the petition and sign electronically at: www.carenotkilling.org.uk/scotland/petition/. "Care not killing "is a uk based alliance which aims to ensure existing laws against euthanasia are not weakened as well as promoting improved palliative care.

Christmas Soup Run – this Friday. Gifts of gents toiletries (soap, toothpaste, deodorant, etc.), socks, underwear, scarves, gloves etc.  will be gratefully received. Box available in porch for collection. Instead of soup or sandwiches this month, please donate mince pies! Any questions, please call Phyllis Littlejohn on  570 1343.
