Turnbull High School P7 Pupils and their Parents / Carers Open Evening this Monday 8th September, 7pm - 9pm. Senior pupils will take groups of parents and P7 pupils around the school, visiting each department, where staff and Turnbull pupils will provide a flavour of S1 courses and some of the learning activities. There will also be an opportunity to find out about the wide range of extra-curricular activities which are on offer to pupils. For more information, contact Mrs Bray, Depute Head Teacher, on 955 2393. This is the beginning of the transition year for pupils as they near the end of their Primary Education. We hope to make that transition as smooth as possible, the secondary staff working with pupils in the primary classes and P7 pupils coming to Turnbull for some activities.
You will be aware that an external “Review of Safeguarding Protocols and Procedures” within the Catholic Church in Scotland was commissioned by the Bishops of Scotland with the cooperation of the religious congregations which are active here. It will review the suitability and robustness of our safeguarding procedures; it is known as the McLellan Commission. The Commission is keen to hear from members of the Catholic Church and others in relation to the ways in which the Church works to safeguard its members from abuse and harm. If you have a view on this, whether positive or negative, the Commission would be very interested to hear from you. If you would like to participate, a secure and confidential area has been established on the McLellan Commission website where you can get in touch. A confidential questionnaire on this part of the website is live until 30 September 2014. The website can be found at: www.mclellancommission.co.uk Until 30 September 2014, you can also email: [email protected] Alternatively you can write to: Secretary, The McLellan Commission, Centrum House, 38 Queen Street, Glasgow G1 3DX.

Coffee Morning after 10 am Mass, Sunday 21st September. Please come along and join us. Donations of home baking (no nuts please) always gratefully received. This month we are raising funds for Cafod’s (Catholic agency for overseas development) Syria fund. Fighting in Syria has caused a humanitarian crisis on a staggering scale, and it’s getting worse every day. Over 100,000 people have been killed and more than 11 million children, women and men driven from their homes. Millions of people desperately need aid right now. Your donation will help provide food, shelter and safety, as well as blankets, clothes and other essentials. Also, many thanks to everyone who came along to August’s coffee morning. The sum of £182 was sent by moneygram to Fr Mathew at St Thomas’ convent school in India. I have posted on the notice board in the porch a copy email of thanks which Fr Mathew sent together with some lovely photos of his students making their first communion. I have also posted a thank you letter from St Margaret of Scotland hospice for the £100 which was raised at June’s coffee morning. Many thanks once again for your continued support. Veronica Maguire.
