"Stay awake and be ready!
For you do not know on what day your Lord will come."

Next Sunday is Education Sunday, marking the start of a week when we celebrate the importance of educating children and young people in faith. Archbishop Tartaglia’s Pastoral Letter for Education Week will be emailed out to parishioners next Sunday, as well as being posted on our social media platforms.

Catholic Education Week - This year’s lecture will be given by Dr Rebekah Lamb on Thérèse of Lisieux: A Doctor of the Church for Our Times. Sat 28th November  11am-12.15 via Zoom.   The annual Cardinal Winning Lecture Mass will be celebrated before the event—at 10am by Fr Stephen Reilly—and this can be attended via YouTube.  To obtain the links for this event, please register by at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/cardinal-winning-lecture-2020-registration-126250563835

First Holy Communion Masses - next one is today Sunday at 2pm and the final one next Sunday. Please keep the boys and girls, and their families, teachers and catechists in your prayers.  They have waited so patiently for this celebration on their journey of faith. Masses are being live streamed and videoed for family and friends.

Remember the Dead—The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered up every day during the month of November for the Holy Souls. Remembering the souls of the faithful departed, and praying for them is a “holy and wholesome thought.”

There will be a Memorial Mass this month, but it will not be possible this year, unfortunately, for it to be a public Mass, as it has been in past years.  With numbers being severely restricted in the church, I regret to say that we wouldn’t be able to have all families who have lost a loved one over the past year together for Mass.  This year’s Memorial Mass will therefore be live streamed on Sunday 22nd November at 2pm on our YouTube channel via www.standrewsbearsden.co.uk   As a community, it is important for us to remember those who have gone before us in faith.   A memorial candle will be lit during the Mass for each loved one who has died over the course of the past year.

Just a reminder - Primary Three enrolment for the Sacraments, and Primary Seven enrolment for Confirmation - please collect a form before or just after daily or Sunday Mass from your parish of either St Joseph's or St Andrew's

Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation for S1 pupils will be on 23rd, 24th, 25th and 26th Nov 7pm. Please keep the candidates in your prayers. Hopefully, all families are finding the  online catechesis for home learning useful. If any assistance is needed at any time, please call or email.  An instructional video will be sent out soon.

The Piety Stall online store now has a large selection of cards and gifts for First Communion and Confirmation for sale, as well as Christmas cards, Advent calendars, candles and Christmas Eve boxes. Orders can be placed and either collected from the organiser’s homes or delivery can be arranged if collection isn’t suitable.https://www.standrewsbearsden.co.uk/piety-stall.html

SCIAF REAL GIFTS  This year, SCIAF is asking people in Scotland to buy a water filter as a Christmas gift to help parents in Ethiopia to protect their children from preventable diseases caused by dirty and unsafe water.  It will also enable the women and girls who would normally spend hours walking to fetch often dirty, dangerous water, to get an education and learn the skills they need to break the poverty cycle. Please see the poster and catalogue on the church notice board or visit www.sciaf.org.uk/realgifts for some other gift ideas.

Soup Run – Christmas Gifts – Although our soup run volunteers cannot visit their usual places, we  have continued throughout lockdown, with some additional volunteers,  to deliver hot and cold food to various charities and organisations in Glasgow. Our intention this year is to give Christmas gifts to the Wayside centre for distribution to homeless in Glasgow as well as other centres if possible.   Your help is needed to make this happen please! This year unfortunately, all donations will need to be gift wrapped by you or put in a gift bag and include all the items on the list below.  These should be brought to church on one weekend only before or after each Mass on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December.  Please make clear whether the gift is for male or female. Please include these items : a hand written Christmas card, small selection box or Chocolates, hat, gloves, scarf, underwear, shampoo, shower gel, deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrush and ladies to include sanitary products.  Many many thanks Veronica McLaughlin

St Andrew’s The 29 Club  (200 Club )    2020/21 Season   On a brighter note our popular 29 Club pre Christmas draw will take place at the end of November with a top prize of £1000 and 5 x £100 prizes.   My thanks to those who have renewed their subscription however we still have small number yet to renew!!   Our fundraising is used to support the Parish Development Fund; various Charitable causes  and ...  you can win one of the many cash prizes on offer during the year,  We need YOUR support please!!  Vacancies are available now for the 2020/21 season with membership at £6 per month by standing order or £65 annual payment.   Interested?? then give  your name and address details to Fr Joe or myself.

Deadline for the pre Christmas Draw is 26th November 2020.      My thanks and take care.  Brian Donnelly -  Finance & Fabric Coordinator Email – [email protected]   Text - 07484 707750

Catholic Social Teaching Thought for the Week - 8 November (Remembrance Sunday 2020)   Lasting peace however is not just a matter of structures and mechanisms. It rests above all on the adoption of a style of human coexistence marked by mutual acceptance and a capacity to forgive from the heart. We all need to be forgiven by others, so we must all be ready to forgive. Asking and granting forgiveness is something profoundly worthy of man; sometimes it is the only way out of situations marked by age-old and violent hatred.                     Pope St. John Paul II, Message for World Day of Peace 1997

As seating capacity in the church is much reduced due to current social distancing guidelines, a booking system is required.  To register to use the booking system, please go to www.standrewsbearsden   Please note that the obligation to attend Sunday Mass continues to be suspended. It is still fine not to go to Mass during these circumstances.

Here's some helpful guidance from the Bishops' Conference of Scotland
Please familiarise yourself with it ahead of attending Mass.

Drumchapel Foodbank - Thanks to all of our Parishioners who are donating food and toiletries to our collection point in the Chapel House porch to be delivered to Drumchapel Food Bank.  Regularly your donations are dropped off at the foodbank by our parish volunteers. Thanks for continuing to help.

Our parish’s soup-run’s volunteers continue to collect food donations form M&S Byres Road for delivery  to Drumchapel and St Gregory’s Foodbanks and the Wayside Club.

Parish Website – Bulletin - Just to say that on the latest page and the bulletin page, a subscribe button has been added which allows users to have a daily summary sent each morning with the previous day's posts. If you don't use social media, but would like to be kept posted, then all that's asked for is your email address  – you can unsubscribe at any time – it's all clearly marked.

Parish Bulletin: Any items for inclusion in the bulletin (including names for recently dead, month's mind and anniversary lists) should be put through the letter box of the Chapel House or sent by email: [email protected] by12noon on the Wednesday before publication.
