"This I command you: love one another."

A big welcome to the children and their families this weekend for the celebration of their First Holy Communion  ~ a very special moment on their journey of faith.  We thank all those who have been involved in helping the boys and girls to prepare over the past months at school, at home, and in the parish. We pray that the blessings of the Eucharist will stay with the children for a long time to come and that they will become committed members of the Body of Christ.

The Piety Stall online store has a large selection of First Holy Communion & Confirmation cards & gifts for sale. Orders can be placed and either collected from the organiser’s homes, church house porch or delivery can be arranged if collection isn’t suitable.https://www.standrewsbearsden.co.uk/piety-stall.html

Feast Day of the Ascension of Our Lord  - this Thursday 13th May. Masses ~ 10am & 7pm (no need to book for these Masses). All pupils & staff of St Nicholas' will be participating online at our 10am Mass.  The pupils have been creating lovely artwork for the feast, which will be posted up on our YouTube channel.
Go to  www.standrewsbearsden.co.uk

Celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation for S1 pupils will be at 1.30pm & 3.30pm on 22nd May and 1.30pm & 3.30pm on 23rd May. Please keep the candidates in your prayers. They have been waiting so patiently to be Confirmed.  Hopefully, all families are finding the refresher online catechesis for home learning useful. If any assistance is needed at any time, please call or email.  An instructional video will be sent out soon.

Pope Francis Faith Award - P7 ceremony & (next year's P6)   An Award ceremony will be arranged at the school for the P7 candidates   before the end of term.   Both parishes will work with St Nicholas’ to run a new cohort next session - it will be ‘opt in’. So, current P5s are invited to think about the PFFA.  Candidates will be invited to enrol in the new term and parish sign up will be arranged at this time.   St Nicholas' have passed on their sincere thanks to the PFFA team in both parishes for supporting the candidates with their endeavours.

A carpet of flowers for the unborn. On 22 May, at Carfin Grotto, SPUC Scotland will display 14,000 white flower images, one for every child lost to abortion in Scotland in one year, to create a ‘carpet of flowers for the unborn’. Bishop Toal will bless the physical display at 2pm.  If you would like to sponsor a virtual flower, please visit www.whiteflower.org.uk or call SPUC Scotland (0141 221 2094) to make a donation.

Remember May last year? Locked down big time we were. It was great you sending in the lovely photos of your May altars. Let’s do the same again this May. Take a photo of your May altar in your home or in class and send it in and our online team will get it posted. Photos can be emailed to [email protected]    Mary, Mother of God, pray for us.

0-5 playgroup ~ For over 30 years there has been a 0-5 playgroup at St Andrew’s Parish, it has been invaluable to many children, parents and grandparents all getting to know each other before starting school. Once the current restrictions are lifted there is a great opportunity for someone to start a new group and at this time the lower hall has a lot of flexibility with available times. The group would be a great resource for all families connected with St Nicholas’ Primary. If you would like to know more about starting the group or wish to be updated when a new group starts please contact Aura Murphy on 07881 445565 or email [email protected].

Keep Scotland Beautiful: Summer Clean 28th-30th May   Why not support the Bearsden Summer Clean, by joining Bearsden in Bloom.  Membership is free and you will get a free high-visibility jacket and a litter picker.  Following the initial event you would be expected to pick litter locally about one a month.  If you subsequently decide that it’s not for you, all you have to do is hand the jacket and litter picker back.  Bearsden in Bloom also plan to eventually invite members to help with maintenance and establishing new local projects. For an application form email [email protected] Justice and Peace Group
