"The seed is the word of God, Christ is the sower.
All who come to him will live forever."

Happy Fathers’ Day.  We remember all our fathers, whether still with us or gone to the Lord, at Mass today and in our prayers and ask God’s blessing on them.

Last coffee morning before summer – today - to raise funds for research into dementia. Alzheimer’s Research UK is the UK’s leading dementia research charity. Almost one million people in the UK are living with Dementia right now (up nearly 25% in the last decade). There are currently no treatments available in the UK to stop the disease. Through donations, this charity aims to develop ways to prevent, treat and ultimately cure all forms of dementia. There aren’t many of us whose lives haven’t been touched by someone who is living with dementia. We know what a cruel disease it is. Do come along -  treat your dad/grandad to some delicious home-baking on this Father’s Day and remember our dear parishioners who have lost their lives to this disease and help raise funds so that in the future our loved ones may have new treatments which they can access.  Thank you.
The family of Elise O’Hagan RIP

Congratulations go to the Pope Francis Faith Award P7 champions who will be receiving their award at a ceremony on Thursday, 22nd  June at 2.15pm in St Nicholas’. This is great news for the school and both parish communities. Parents and family members are invited to attend. Look out for the PFFA pics online.  P5s, it’s time to start thinking about becoming a PFFA candidate.

A Mission Appeal will be made at all our Masses next weekend by Sr Pennie of The Sisters of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. The second collection will be our donation to help the Sisters in their missionary work. They work with the poorest of the poor to identify and transform underlying causes such as human trafficking, orphans and street children and HIV / Aids awareness, and they run many oversees health and education projects.

Family Quiz Night fundraiser for WYD23 Lisbon - with a buffet and bar - £5 per adult and £2.50 per child on Sat1st July at 6.15pm in the upper hall. Questions will be fun and suitable for all ages. Tickets on sale after every Mass the weekend before, by contacting [email protected] or by seeing me at any of the Vigil Masses.
Thank you all in advance and if you have any questions about World Youth Day, please feel free to ask!

Evangelisation - How can I do it?     We’d like to form a Parish Visiting Team.   The Legion of Mary team from Ireland who were with us in September 2019, provided us with a good list of households who said they would be happy to be revisited. This follow up work was started but then lockdown hit.  We would now like to resume this work. There are still about 60 homes to be revisited. If you would like to become part of a team of volunteer visitors, please contact Ann Colraine at [email protected]  or speak to Fr Mackle.   Volunteers would be given some formation / training and would visit in pairs. They would be required to complete a Safeguarding form and attend the Safeguarding Induction course.

Deanery Walk / Cycle for Vocations to the Diaconate, to the Priesthood and to the Religious Life. Leaving Holy Cross, Croy  at 12.45pm next Sunday, 25th June to reach Carmelite Monastery, Waterside, Kirkintilloch at 4pm.

The Report from our Deanery Council meeting has been issued and sent to the Archdiocese, copies of which are available here on this link or in the porch.  The Report is the outcome of a Deanery meeting in May held at St Ninian’s, Kirkintilloch, where there was the opportunity for all parishes to feed in their views. All parishes will now be split into Pastoral Areas based on local geography with St Joseph’s and St Andrew’s forming a Pastoral Area. In due course, a series of meetings, effectively resurrecting previous cluster meetings, will take place to explore working more closely together. Regarding one key point on whether any decisions have been taken about Pastoral groups becoming Parishes in due course, the Dean has clarified that no decision has been taken on that. Regular updates following Deanery Council and Pastoral Area meetings will be made to the parish.

The paperback edition of People I Met on the Way by Father Joseph Dillon  is now  available to purchase on Amazon.co.uk at a cost of £12.00  (or for European friends and relatives its 15 Euros).
There will be a feature on Fr Joe and his visit to St Andrew’s and Gavin’s Mill in the July issue of Flourish and also in the Bearsden and Milngavie Community Magazine.
A limited stock of first edition signed copies are available at Gavin’s Mill in Milngavie.

Catholic Social Teaching Thought for Week - Sun 18 June (Nearest Sunday before World Refugee Day (20 June)) The Church’s concern is focused especially on those fleeing from war, violence, political or religious persecution, from natural disasters including those caused by climate change, and from extreme poverty.  Christus Vivit, 91

Laudato Si’ - On Care for our Common Home - Today, however, we have to realize that a true ecological approach always becomes a social approach; it must integrate questions of justice in debates on the environment, so as to hear both the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor. (#49)
