Over £1200 of food and toiletries bought from Cash & Carry and delivered directly to Drumchapel Foodbank this week. Thanks to our parishioners who made this possible through regular monetary donations.
Huge thanks to all the parents for their time yesterday evening in coming along to the meeting for First Confession ~ the Sacrament of Reconciliation. It was good to have the chance for an in person meeting. Good questions asked as well and one in particular ~
Why do we need to go to Confession - can we not just confess our sins straight to God? It is a good question. Well, that's the way Jesus set it up on Easter Sunday evening. If we remember, then he told his apostles that just as God the Father had sent him — and God the Father sent him to save us from our sins — so he was sending them. He breathed on them the power of the Holy Spirit, giving them God’s power to forgive sins, since no one can forgive sins but God alone. He then told them that whatever sins they forgive are forgiven and whatever sins they retain are retained. Check John 20:22 Of course, as the apostles couldn’t read minds, the only way that they would know which to forgive and which to retain is if people actually told them their sins. So really this was Jesus establishing the essential structure of the sacrament of reconciliation. Just as he uses priests to give us his Body and Blood at Mass so he uses them to give us His mercy in the Sacrament of Penance - in Confession. Plus, there's undoubtedly a huge value when going to Confession in actually hearing self vocalising what we're sorry for, and a huge value too in hearing the words spoken by the priest - 'through the ministry of the Church may God give you pardon and peace’......and....’I absolve you from your sins' I like this Pope Francis quote ~ "Jesus in the confessional is not a coin operated launderette. It is a meeting with Jesus. He is waiting for us and accepts us just as we are". Various groups continue to use the halls in a COVID safe manner.
These include support groups relating to:
Upper Hall Lower Hall Hut That's the Christmas decorations all packed away now and huge amount of thanks to all who attended to that. Our outdoor tree is away doing its bit for the environment by being recycled.
A huge amount of thanks too to all those who worked so hard in so many ways preparing the church and the Liturgies for Christmas. Many thanks to all who helped with musical, liturgical and decorative preparations. And with all the restrictions that are still swirling around, thank you for your participation at the Masses in church and online. To all who were involved in various ministries - many thanks. Remember, our cribs inside and outdoors remain up for forty days until 2nd February. If you can, keep yours up at home or in the class. To think it's only three hundred and fifty days to Christmas! We pray for the peaceful repose of the soul of John Strain. Thoughts and prayers are with Ann, and with Michael, Andrew and Peter and the whole family. John had been a teacher for many years in John Paul Academy, and before that in St Pius', Drumchapel.
The funeral for John will take place on Wednesday 12th January at 1.30pm at Dalnottar Crematorium. May God give John rest and peace in the kingdom of light, and may Ann and her family find comfort during this sad time. |
