As Scotland comes into the spotlight hosting COP26 - the United Nations climate talks due in Glasgow this November - a critical issue will be how to promote the transition from fossil fuels to cleaner alternatives and keep coal, oil and gas in the ground. The fossil fuel industry is one of the greatest contributors to global warming. An area of concern is the ongoing significant investment in an industry that is harming our planet.
Laudato Si' insists that our Church promotes the care of God’s creation. Christian organisations in Scotland and worldwide are coming together in record numbers to consider divesting from fossil fuels and seek investments which benefit both the environment and job creation. The momentum is such that those joining to disinvest will certainly increase.
“Dear Lord, we seem to have reached the tipping point for climate chaos, and as all the world looks to Glasgow in November, let us follow your guidance to care for your earth. Help us ensure a just transition from a carbon economy to a carbon free one “
