Previously the Archdiocese processed PVG for those who were working with Vulnerable adults, however PVG only allows those working with Protected adults to apply for PVG.
This impacts all volunteers working in groups such as SVDP, Bereavement Group, Hospital visits etc.
Before the Archdiocese processes any new or updated PVG they will ensure that only those who are eligible apply.
The Archdiocese is currently working on updating their database to identify those who do/do not require a PVG going forward by using a Tier system as outlined below.
Those who no longer require a PVG (Tier 2) but are working with vulnerable groups such as examples given above will still require to complete the recruitment process with Archdiocese (AoG) application form, 2 references and training. Only then will they begin as volunteers. Those who are Tier 1 will continue as normal with Archdiocese application form, 2 references, training and PVG before commencing in their role.
Volunteer recruitment process:
Tier 1 – PVG / AoG Application / 2 x references / Training
Tier 2 – AoG application / 2 x references / Training
On receipt of the above as required depending on their Tier, volunteers will be sent an Approval letter by email which is CC’d to the Parish Priest & Parish Safeguarding Coordinator.
There is no change to volunteers working with children who still require PVG
