Hope all’s well.
It's probably the most familiar verse in the whole of the new testament. John 3:16.
It's not uncommon, granted maybe more in the USA than here, for evangelical Christians to hold John 3:16 signs at sports stadiums as a way to spread the Gospel.
John 3:16 - a verse from the gospel for today’s Mass. In it Jesus is speaking to Nicodemus.
And this one verse speaks to us of love and of giving. It speaks to us of words backed up with action.
God so loved the world that he gave us his only son.
As Christians, one of the things we are called to do is to be imitators of God.
Imitating God, as John 3:16 reminds us of means ensuring that our words of saying 'I love you' are backed up with action. Imitating God, as this verse reminds us of means too that we cannot truly love without giving.
John 3:16 - "God loved the world so much that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost but may have eternal life."
Next time there’s a big world sports event on, see if you can see a John 3:16 sign.
Hope you have a lovely day
Take care.
